Default ZR1 hybrid material braking system

Wonder how expensive replacement will be.

I'm guessing most people that track these will take the stock rotors off and replace with iron. The stock ceramic hybrids can then be put back on when the car is sold.

I'm planning to run them at first to get some data on how they hold up. Then I'll put the AP Racing kit back on.

Makes sense. I just started getting back into track days last year so until my times improve I'll just stick with my z06. Once my times improve I'll probably get a zr1. I'll probably track it and drive the z on the street.

I'm pretty sure it's just a different pad compound and not much else so I wouldnt expect costs to jump significantly. The AP Kit is what we've been replacing CC equipped track cars with. Great for consumables and easy to maintenance.

Yeah maybe the new compound will stop better and last longer. I think the ap kit will still be the best bet cost wise on track.

The following is from that link in the first post:

The front and rear brake pads include new formulations from Brembo’s R&D Center for better stopping power and pad wear. The size of the fixed aluminum calipers hasn’t changed from the Corvette Z07, but the brake rotors and friction materials are enhanced to handle higher thermomechanical loads. This attribute is vitally important and separates the ZR1 from the rest of Brembo’s portfolio.

“While Brembo carbon discs are also found on other supercars, the ZR1 discs have a specialized heat treatment for improved energy and thermal management,” Sandberg said. “These specialized brake discs are paired with Brembo monoblock aluminum calipers and a unique Brembo-developed friction material found only on the ZR1.”
I agree with you that it's mostly just a different brake pad compound, but it sounds like something has also been done to the carbon ceramic rotors.

I bet the new "unique Brembo-developed friction material" is probably very similar to one of the already available Pagid RSC compounds.

I would expect that the supposedly upgraded pads and rotors will also be used on future C7 Z06's as well - but we'll see!!

Brembo does a lot of formula 1 brakes. The current brakes will pretty much last forever on the street. If they change the rotors to something more like the formula 1 rotors they may end up with something that lasts substantially longer on street and track. That would be a home run for all of us.

!!!! With my C7 Z06/Z07 I run the stock carbon ceramic rotors on the track, so if they get something that lasts longer I'd be a real happy track hound!!!

The improvements should have been expected the Z07 brakes were way over rated didn't hold up on track use and most track guys use something else.

I don't think they were over rated. They just didn't have the life span required for an expensive brake package. They sure did bring the car speed down. My Essex AP package doesn't do any better from that standpoint. The AP rotors seem to last a little longer and the brakes work about the same as the ceramics but replacement part cost is 1/4 the cost of the ceramics.

I don't know what you mean, but as far as I can tell both the front and the rear C7 ZR1 brakes will be the same size as the C7 Z06 brakes, so should be completely interchangeable both front and rear between the two models.

Just MHO based on info that's been put out so far.

The ZR1 fronts have the new treatment not the rears and not the Z06's!
Hope that helped! No one mentioned size!

Thanks! I just figured the plural "discs" in that link meant all four discs, but I guess it just means the two front discs.

the ZR1 discs have a specialized heat treatment
