Ah yes, another incorrect media rumor. Just one year premature for its actual NAIAS reveal in January 2019.
About as accurate as the person who “leaked” this, won the $570,000,000 Powerball lottery two days ago.
The best confirmation that it is not this year, for it were, why would Bowling Green Assembly Plant be off limits to all of us Corvette lovers for the entire year...
Additional confirmation: Remember the big GM official build up for the actual 1.13.13 Stingray reveal? It started in a well-planned series of sequential teaser videos, back in October, 2012. Yet no GM teaser videos this year.
There is another thread re the rumors of the ME’s reveal at NAIAS — and within it are rumors about the ME’s reveal at many other car events going on in 2018.
While we all wish it were being reveal next week, sorry.

Many are predicting that the first customer ME’s will not become available until summer of 2019. I am in that group. And that Janaury, 2019 reveal timetable coincides very nicely with your statement that typically cars are customer available 6-12 months after they are revealed.

I don't care when they "reveal" it...as long as we "see" it before then !

Besides "elegant", does anyone know if there will be a “livestream” for the Chevrolet announcement (noted below)?
It’s “offsite” so I’m not sure.
13jan
6:00 pm EST - Chevrolet – Offsite

I can see both sides, I think 6 months would be a pretty quick turnaround, I’m thinking 9-12 is more likely. Do you think the FE is done? If so then I could see possibly a preview this year, since a base version shouldn’t affect ZR1 sales much. However if ME is only going to be another trim (likely a high performance trim) I definitely don’t see it showing up for at least a year. I’ve been back in forth with this.

Below are more, but precious few, details from the official NAIAS Press website about Chevy’s off-site, Saturday, 6:00 PM, January 13th reveal.
Based on what GM Corvette did for the ZR1 Reveal two months ago, there will not be a livestream GM web presentation of the event, but lots of it will be on line right afterwards from the press who get to attend these off-site events and/or immediately thereafter and the next day several YouTube videos of the event, and sometimes GM videos of parts of the event not to long thereafter.
Such an event is consistent with what GM has been doing since the 1.12.13 off-site Stingray special event reveal. They notify the press, specifically also invite those others they wish (as they most recently did in LA on October 28th for the ZR1’s convertible reveal — I was there), and provide direct, 1 to 1, communication press access to the GM team presenting the revealed product. Lots of drink (all kinds) and food present. This allows GM to have at least a couple of hours alone with the press rather than the typical/only 30 minutes that they have during the AutoShow press conference events. The press loves it (the benefit far better in every way); GM loves it. Might even be in the same industrial building that GM bought and remodeled for the 1.12.13, private, C7 reveal.
Key factory for everyone’s consideration: GM can and will use this event for its reveal and re-resentations of its new SUV/pickups and whatever, and while there may well or probably will be a ZR1 or two there, IMO there will not be a ME there, i.e., just because there will be a special press event does not mean the Corvette we most want to see, will be there.

Ya, but it wasn't your traditional post it on the internet tease, they spent some coin to do that, so it would seem unnecessary to spend more on a special presentation when everyone knows its showing up. Seems a launch at the chevy section would do just fine. This would be like the 3rd or 4th year in a row chevy has showed up to detroit without a performance car. I'm trying to be optimistic about it!! haha I'm sure your right and it'll just be a complete debut of the silverado.

The Corvette is important, but the full size trucks are the main profit center to this company. They'll spend some coin launching them properly. They won't want the ME car to distract from that, and vice versa, they won't want the trucks distracting from the ME car when the time comes.

As seen in the ZR1 and Stingray development (I think), as well as many other cars of various makes, the heavy camo is scaled down as we get closer to the reveal. The most recent HD spy shots of the mid engine are of a HEAVILY camouflaged prototype that looks far from production ready or from its reveal IMO.
Additionally, why would GM unveil the mid engine only two months after the ZR1? Wouldn't that cannibalize ZR1 sales significantly? There are plenty of posters on this forum and elsewhere that are waffling between the ZR1 and mid engine but will likely buy the ZR1 as it is available much sooner. Unveiling the mid engine so soon after the ZR1 would likely cause at least some of those buyers to wait IMO

iirc when the c7 vette debuted at naias in 2013 it came out later that year. they took the red car straight from Detroit to barrett Jackson to auction off #1. I was there and they shipped in Saturday night in darkness rolled it through the auction and then it went right back on the truck and left. I'm not saying that will be the case this year with b-j. there weren't mules out riding around in early 2012 not to be released until late 2013. idk
