Default New article talks about the ZR1 weight!

Just was reading Motor trend and they said they are talking with Tadge. He states the final word is the Zr1 Base car is 59 pounds heavier than the Z06 base car. https://www.msn.com/en-us/autos/los-...tandhp#image=7

It's all the electrical ish and technology. There's probably 800Lbs of wiring in modern cars.

Still should not weigh 3500+ lbs. Other manufacturers find a way!

Which is the other car over 600hp and under 3600#?

A Mac costing more than double... that's about it. The corvette would probably be a bit lighter if they could spend another 100-150k on weight reduction.

I said ANY corvette. There are too many performance cars that weigh less and have great performance. And some don’t even cost as much. You don’t need 700+hp with a light car. Hell, my FRS is the most fun driving car I own, and it weighs 2758lbs.

Smaller brakes, smaller wheels, smaller tires, smaller motor, smaller overall footprint, no FI, no dry sump, and let's not even get started on the interior.

Good news, my c6 zr1 is now lightweight car
288lbs zr1 convertible more comparing to c6 , on the track is a lot

Gm should change commercial - not the strongest but the heaviest corvette ever.

You said other manufacturers make it work.

In any case you're comparing apples to oranges.

The FRS is a fantastic chassis, but my leaf blower feels torquier.

A lot of weight could be saved just by giving rid of the power seats and windows, but then people would be crying about a $100,000 car that didn't have them

Yup, they do find a way.
And that way is lined with dollar signs.

If you want a lighter Vette, I'm sure GM could build one with a Carbon Fiber tub and a generous amount of other CF bits, jettison the pushrod and go for a little V6, rip out the nicest interior a Corvette has ever had and go for minimalism, etc.
Sure, it can be done, but would the majority of Corvette fans really want to go down that road?

The Vette got heavy cause people complained about not having supported head, neck, shoulder, upper and lower back, thigh, heated seats. 14 speaker stereo, cameras, huds, removable roofs, micro fibre wrapped everything, cavernous rear storage, 8 speed auto's, 750 h.p and power everything else. So now you got it. And here we are complaining about the down sides of it all.

Default ZR1 weight

Light.
Reliable.
Cheap.

Choose two.

I admire the design of the C7, and the engineering put into it to make it the most performance for the dollar in the world.

Could it be better?
Sure.

But then I probably could not afford it.

True , and for those who complain is the base c7, grand sport and convertible z06.
Zr1 should be more unique, wing , some chassis mods and power are not enough. (fixed roof, lightweight seats, titanium exhaust, four speakers )

Gm can do a lighter car, remember the thinner windshield and titanium mufflers in c5 z06 just to get a few lbs out of the car.

The majority of Corvette buyers have repeatedly shown that they do not want those things. That is why the Z06X was never brought to fruition, and its why the ZL1 1LE has all major features unlike the previous generation Z/28.

People want power and they want all of the features too.

difference in the porsche turbo 1999 vs 2016 - 120lbs. (newer, of course, heavier).
2017 porsche gt3 500hp weight the same as the good old c6 zo6.
weight was vette advantage , now chasing the audi weight for performance car is not a good direction.

Maybe in bowling green they use cast iron wiring that can weight 800lbs
