2 SWC's sell at Mecum today...
Seem like nice cars, no awards or provenance mentioned or advertised...a lot of money for what they are...$154K & $159.5 respectively...
Could do without the crooked bumpers...

But, but — the SWC market is just a bubble!

Red Bloomington Gold car with 10 Top Flights sold yesterday for $152.5. Pretty sure it was "just" a 300 horse, too. Nice car.
There's several SWCs this year, and at least 4 very nice '63 roadsters as well, including an air car. And a Black over tan SWC that I think Terry has.
There's one red SWC with '67 parts and hood and seats and all sorts of mismatched stuff too. Make a good restomod candidate probably.

Over the years at B-J Scottsdale the trend would be one or two of a particular car that was cosmetically done stunningly would suddenly sell for crazy money than ever before. It did not have to be any kind of documented correct original car just super well presented and LOOK correct. The next year the same type cars would come out of the woodwork. Often MUCH better cars than the one that started it all and sometimes not bringing the money the one that started it all. This usually would go on for the 3rd year at which point the prices would begin to drop and then it was over.
I do think the SWCs fit in this bubble right now. People will cash in for big bucks and others will say a few years later I missed it.

There were a few there, though, some top shelf and some, um, bargains. . Last pic is when they closed that deal.

VB that "Outer Limits" wild custom is just that.
On the other hand was the light blue fuelie coupe as nice as it looks in the picture?

Having been watching 63s go by at Mecum for a few years now as I am looking for one, this year wins for high average prices I think. There were a number of well and fresh restored cars the last two years but they went in the 125 or a little more range I think (for non fuelie). These today were certainly nicely restored cars. Vettes seem to be doing well overall this year.

Yes, and don't forget to budget some extra money for the sales/used taxes that most individuals are charged at the BJ and Mecum auctions. Here, in Nevada, you pay no sales/used taxes on private party transactions!! Something to think about before you raise your paddle!
