Hello Howie! So, I bought my '69 C3 Corvette in October, 2017 after finding it in a barn. It took a little work to out her on the road, but I have been curious to see what she is capable of, and I have been looking for an event/locatio to do so.
Can you provide some information to a newbie on the requirements to participate?

I bought a '71 last spring and even though it had seen some regular maintenance, there were some Corvette specific items that needed to be addressed. I put a fair amount of work into it over the last year and finally got it out for my first autocross this weekend - It was a blast and everyone was friendly & helpful.
For your car, I would start off by making sure everything is safe and in good working order, especially since it's been sitting. I would check everything, but not necessarily replace, unless it's bad. This includes:
- Bearings, front & rear. My fronts were great, but the rears were shot because they were a Corvette specific item that the former mechanic wasn't knowledgeable about.
- Brakes. Leaks, cracks, pad life, pedal feel, etc. You have to be able to slow the car safely and predictably.
- Bushings - A-arms, rear trailing arms, and rear strut rods. The strut rods on my were shot, but hadn't been replaced because (again) it's a Corvette thing.
- Tires. The tires on mine when I bought it were old and borderline unsafe. Depending on wheel size and intended use, there may many choices or just a few. Either way, make sure that they are in good condition.
- Steering. The rag joint in mine was about to come apart and the box was way out of adjustment, so there was a scary amount of slop in the steering wheel. Be sure to check these. The box is easy to adjust and the rag joint doesn't take long to replace. You definitely don't want to have any play steering when your trying to make the turns.
- Battery hold down. Your battery has to be secured in order to race. Luckily the battery hold down was a common GM item. I went over to National Parts Depot (NPD) in Ventura and picked up a new one for a similar year Camaro for about $3.00 and it fit perfectly.
-Leaks. We took my '71 out on the Father's Day Corvette run and it got the name Valdez, as in Exxon Valdez, because it had leaks everywhere. It leaked from the oil pan, valve covers, brakes, power steering, rear end, transmission line, fuel line, and even from the gas cap itself. The garage floor looked like a map of where the different parts are, based on what fluids were on the ground. Be sure to take care of any of these. This weekend there was a '78 C3 that left early because every time he ran, he was blowing the PCV valve out of his valve cover and putting oil all over his exhaust and down onto the track.
- Seat Belt. I know that some early cars did not come with a shoulder belt. If yours is like this, you'll need to check and see if it's required. Even if it's not, I would seriously consider adding it.
That's about all I can think of right now. The main thing is to make sure it's safe and in good working order.
It would be great to see another C3 out there.
Howie, Sorry for the long post and thread hijack.
Cyxelsid, You can always send me a PM if you want more info, but keep in mind that I've only been out the one time. The rest of the guys with the C5, C6, and C7s are the autocross veterans.
Take care,
Chris
