Default Quick C4 Corvette Gas Tank Sender Unit Question

Working on a 1988. Had an issue with the gas gauge reading full all the time. I pulled the sender only to find out that the little resistors inside sender that make the gauge work were literally missing. I went ahead and bought a new sender off of ebay.

The one question that I have is what is this part I have the arrows pointing to on the pictures below? It does not fit onto the new sender (which was said to be correct for 1988).
What does it do, and can I just use the supplied piece of rubber hose in its place?
Thanks!

Pulsation damper to smooth out fuel delivery. Last time I had my fuel pump out I replaced mine (91) with a piece of hose because mine was looking bad. If the new unit you bought has it just use it

If it was supplied with the unit it should be the correct
SAE 30R10 hose for submersible use. Just don't use just any fuel line hose inside the tank.

I agree, it is a pulsator. Its there to dampen out the pressure waves from the fuel pump.

I wouldn't chance it unless you see the hose stamped with the correct markings. In my youth, I put a piece of hose to bridge a transmission line. Well, it went south and almost cost me my life.

So swapping out the damper with the hose shouldn't affect anything?
