Default Did I put in the wrong engine air filter? Does it matter?

I have 45,000 miles on my 2013 Grand Sport convertible. I ordered & installed ACDelco engine air filter # A3107C. When I was making my notes in the maintenance section of the Owners Manual, I noticed that the previous page called out the replacement item #'s and showed A3077C for the LS3 [that I have] & LS7 engines. The A3107C that I used is shown to be for the LS9 Supercharged engine. The filter I used cost more than the required one - but looked exactly like the original factory filter that I removed. Should I leave it in or get the "correct" filter?

BTW, those filters last forever...I don't think they ever get clogged. Great design.

I think you will be alright with the LS9 filter.

For curiosity sake, is there a part # on the one that came out of the car?

Your question solved the mystery - thank you. The filter that came out of the car was rubber stamped "P613451 / 25940997" The number starting with "P" is the Donaldson Mfg part # (Donaldson being the OEM supplier to GM) and the second number starting with "2" is the GM part # for the ACDelco filter # A3107C. In other words, the filter I put in was the same model as the one I removed.

So, the Owners Manual is wrong. I found an old post on the CF where it is stated that for 2013, GM also installed the "better" LS9 filter on LS3's. I checked the online Owners Manual to see if the information was corrected, but it still shows the false information as contained in the printed edition.

GM has played around with those filters for years, before they settled on stocking just one. You'll be fine with the one you just bought.

Dang, I bought a A3077C. Haven't put it in yet but I've had it over a year so probably can't return it. Oh well, shouldn't make any difference on a stock LS3.

I changed the filter in my 13 GS at 38,000 miles and it was full of crap. We did a massive amount of driving in the western states (Utah, Wyoming, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, etc...) and picked up a lot of dust and debris. I put in the A3107C which is the same one that came out of the car.

Bingo!

The only difference I saw between the LS3 and LS7 filter, was the plastic cage being attached or not.

I've even cut them open and they look the same.

From what I now understand, part A3077c is the filter ELEMENT - and you will merely re-use the black plastic "frame" from the old filter, attach to the new element and install. You will then have an A3107C and you saved some money!

Sure there is trapped dust and dirt in there but the vast majority of filter media is nice clean blue material. That filter would have kept on working perfectly for years.

Well, if you ever cut one open, you would see that what is nice blue filter medium at the top is nasty sand and dirt at the bottom.

That's what my bottom picture shows. I peeled back filter paper at the bottom and you can see the difference in the color. Clean bright blue versus gray.

Hey Windy: Remember "back in the day" using custom air cleaners that only had a piece of window screen in them?

Made a lot of noise and must've been worth 10-20 HP via the placebo effect.
