Have a 14' Stingray that has a few rock chips on the nose and two on the drivers door. Want to get those areas repainted but have been warned about paint matching. It only has 18k miles and is always garaged, can't imagine there has really been any color fade and wouldn't think with today's technology it would be too hard to match up but thought I would see if anyone has had it done.

The biggest problem you might have with a quality paint shop would be that they probably can't duplicate the level of orange peel that you may have. LOL. If you are considering touching it up yourself, you may indeed have color matching problems, depending on the color you have.

Seriously, I've had some difficult paint colors matched perfectly.

That is the other problem....finding a QUALITY paint shop so I don't end up with orange peel. I did the best I could with the touch up. The chips probably don't stand out to the average person but since I know where they are my eyes are drawn to them every time I jump in the car LOL

A good detail shop usually has touch up paint skills as well. I would try the touch up route first.

For only a few small chips, it would be time well spent to try touching them up yourself with $30 worth of tools available on Amazon...

A friend has had good luck using Dr. Color Chip for his Torch Red Stingray. But he says he has a better way to use it than they suggest.

You have a choice here. A few little repared spots that only you can see/know where they are or whole areas where everyone can see the mismatched paint? Sometimes leaving things alone is the answer. Now, if some bad driver takes off the front end of your car the answer is obvious.

I've used Dr. ColorChip for years now on several cars. Works well for me, and paint matches have always been spot-on for the colors I've needed.

That said, I can certainly sympathize with the OP on the "but I still know they are there" problem...I share that disease as well.

Another vote for drcolorchip. If you want a shop to repaint then contact your local Corvette Club for recommendations.

Most major cities will have people who tour used car lots doing touch up on their inventory. A lot of these use an air brush technique and achieve amazing results without doing major panel paint work. You might contact high end used car departments or the better detail shops to get a reference.

I have found Dr Colorchip to be very good with the color match. Its getting the thickness of the touch up paint to blend well with the existing paint that is tough.

Have a couple on my Crystal Red 2014... got ACDelco lacquer touch up paint pen (code 89U WA 505Q 19328531)but haven’t used it yet... Will keep Dr. ColorChip in mind...

I always start with the OE paint touch-up kit, and so far it has matched most cars well. In the case of my LR it matches well with just the right amount and size of metallic flake.

I have an ink lettering set that has been hanging around for years. It has nibs like those used in the video. They will do the same job!

I have been trying to give the lettering set away for many years. But with computer printers able to do the job today, no-one wants an old inking set. I just pulled it out of my junk box and will give it a new life - filling corvette rock chips.

Another vote for Dr. Color Chip. I used their product on my Lt. Carmine Metallic 98 coupe. It was a perfect match. Be sure you follow the instructions carefully and I recommend that you watch a couple of Youtube videos on the product as well.
