Default Need help with Cam choice...

Alright so I'm ready to purchase a cam kit for my corvette. To give some details before anything, It is a AUTO (A4) 2000 c5 corvette. The car is full bolt ons including long tube headers, x pipe, borla exhaust, custom air intake, vortex power duct, weiand intake manifold, ported 80mm throttle body, 3.15 gears and a 160° thermostat. Car also has stock heads, Although I do plan on adding a nice set of heads in the future. The car is not a daily and is driven about once maybe twice a week. I have no problem dealing with a aggressive cam as I never drive the car when their is traffic. My friend suggested to me the ms4 cam because he has it on his c5 and it has been great for him for top end power and when I do get excited and race it's usually rolls (Don't want to break anything doing digs haha). I read into the ms4 but seems to be alittle too much for my taste and dont want it to do any damage. I thought maybe the ms3 cam would be a better choice for me. Based on my info, do you guys think the 238/242 600" ms3 would be a good choice? I am also planning on purchasing a new stall before getting the cam. Probably a ss3600. Any feedback would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks in advance.

IMO, that's way too big for your setup, unless you plan on staying above 4000 lots of the time. With your heads, get a cam that'll work with stock heads, or better yet, wait until you can do both at the same time. A cam change is not much more difficult when yhttps://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c5-z06-discussion-49/ou add a head swap. A good cam for you would be in the neighborhood of 226-232@112. All of the upgraded valvetrain parts you need to support a cam installation are usually already on aftermarket heads, so keep that in mind.

thanks for the quick reply, I was actually looking into the 228r cam. Do you think that cam would suit it well?

Just watched the cam shaft specs explained episode of Engine Masters on Youtube:
and it was not just edifying on cam shafts, but seriously points out that good heads are arguably more important than the cam. Not sure I would have added the link if I had realized how large the graphic was going to be...

I've got a similar setup to you - see below - and I'm pretty happy with my Comp Cams 54-428-11. 228/230 on a 112 with 2 advance using the XFI RPM High Lift lobes. Between that and my long tube headers with Corsa knock-off mufflers I get compliments nearly every time I take the car out on how it sounds. Also rear-wheel dyno'ed at 368 hp.

Weiand intake manifold, vararam intake, long tube headers, Corsa knock off mufflers, some head work on stock heads, Comp 1.8 roller-tip rockers, LS2 or 3 - I forget - rod bolts. Rev to 7K.

a "big Cam moves the powerband up... (see the engine master episode posted... so you need a converter as well as a steep gear to get and keep the car in its powerband...
