how do i tune my C4 ecm with laptop?
Talked to a few tuners about the back and forth trial and error method. It makes sense to buy a laptop and learn the software. Does anyone recommend this or is it cheaper to get tuner involved? Can i find a chip that's close to my set up?

If you indeed have an 89 you’re going to need the software, a chip burner, some method of scanning software and preferably a wideband. It’s been a long one since I fooled with any chip cars, so I’m no sure what the latest software is.

Unless your willing to endure a very long learning curve for this type of tuning, Contact Dominic at Calibrate Tuning. He specializes in ALDL (ODB1 system) tuning. I’m doing my 90’ ZR-1 with him right now on a remote basis. He goes by xfirez51 on the forums. Email is surrexi2@comcast.net

If you are going to be using the stock ecm then it will be a time consuming learning curve and you will have to buy multiple piece of equipment. If you don't have time, desire, and a little more money to spend, then have someone do it. M.O.P

The more you learn the more you realize you know nothing !!!! Confuscious ??? lol
1. Use the Moates Ostrich - anybody can burn a chip later if needed/if wanted.
2. MAF cars are a lot more subtle than you might think. Back & forth generally = better results. Expert help well worth the costs !!!
3. TunerProRT basically free - TunerCatRT about a $100. Subtle differences - both work.
4. Reading above I see there are a number of tuners besides me !!!!!!! OMG - no !
5. You want the best you need me ! Also if using a stock Bosch MAF you are starting at a huge disadvantage ! Please see my website for replacement - greg

I did the OBDI tune process for years. With the right tuner and a mild application, although a long process, it will deliver decent results.
After about 13 years of the back and forth (with the late Jim Formato) amid numerous changes in my engine combination, I finally changed to aftermarket ECM. Highly recommended by the tuner, I sold all of the OBDI Dyacom logging / tuning software, and never looked back.
Although an aftermarket ECM is an investment, I would have never been able to tune the various combinations with the OEM OBDI system.

I went the EBL Flash from DynamicEFI.com. That replaces your computer completely with one that has 7 flash-able banks. I can keep 7 different programs on my computer and I can change them out anytime I want but just plugging my laptop in and turning on a different bank or load in a new tune that I made. I love it. There is a learning curve but it is not bad. There is support from the forums and Bob from Dynamic is a great help. I had never tuned before I got my computer. I made the required harness pin changes wired in the MAP sensor and in less the 2 days I had my car running better then it ever had. In a week I was out running my brother in law's 85 (mine is and 86 and he always beat me) even with his mail order chip. So much so that he ordered an EBL Flash and is now running my tune. It's really nice to be able to go in and tweak little things like the torque converter lockup parameters to better fit how you drive anytime without having to have down time. I'm guessing that the cost is going to be real similar to buying all of the Moates equipment. Not saying that this is better then going the Moates way just a different option to reach the same goal.

I have a '95 LT1 that I want to get tuned also(I have no experience with tuning). Finding a tuner for it in my area(southern coastal NC) has been difficult and frustrating because I only want to make a few upgrades/changes. I need a shop that can tune AND dyno so I can see what improvements will do to the bottom line. I would like to keep apprised of what you get done because I need to see what works and what does not work.
