Default Codes on my 03 50th Anniversary

I have recently bought a 03 50th Anniversary Edition with just 11,000 miles. I bought it in Virginia and drove it back to Indiana with only the terrible ride as a problem. I did find out that the original runflats are still on the car, other so I know to replace them. However, a week ago when I started it, several warnings appeared on the DIC.... inoperable shocks, service active handling, check engine soon, and others... I researched how and reset them so that they are gone.... but should I take the car to a dealership for a diagnostic check?

First, make sure the shock shipping stuffers have been removed.

Second, pull any trouble codes from the DIC (plenty of threads have been posted on how to do that) and post the codes up for someone to help you.

Based on what comes up, you can then decide on whether to take it to a dealer or not.

And, moved this to C5 Tech.

You would not believe how often it comes up that the shock stuffers were not removed. My '01 rides pretty darn good for a sports car. It certainly isn't terrible.
How old is the battery? Since the car hasn't been driven much it could be old and dying. Low voltage cause a variety of issues with these cars.

The battery is new..... reading 14.2 volts ..... what are these stuffers you are mentioning? Two of the codes are P1571HC, and B2282H, also U1040H...

Default Codes are back

I restarted the car and the codes that I cleared are right back. They read 10-PCM is P1572H, 40-PCM is B0432H, and 58-SPM is U1040H. I crawled under the car and lifted the rubber boots on the shocks as far up as I could... didn’t see any ribbons.... maybe it needs jacked up to tell?

The H means history. They are not current codes. You must clear them all. Restarting doesn't clear them

How to Pull Codes:
1. Turn your key to the "ON" position, but do not start the engine.
2. Clear any present messages by pressing the RESET button.
3. Hold the OPTIONS button down, and press the FUEL button 4 times. (This will get you into the "codes" section of the DIC.
4. The computer will automatically display all the codes your car has created. It will cycle through each code every 3 seconds. (Have a pen and paper handy to write down the codes)

Note: Any code that ends in an "H" is a history code (something that has occurred in the past, but is not reporting as an error currently.)

5. Once the computer has finished going through all of its codes, press RESET to enter Manual Configuration mode. It should start with a module and show "NO CODES" or "# Codes."
6. To optionally reset codes once in manual mode, press and hold RESET until is displays "NO CODES."
7. Press OPTIONS to go into the next module (ie, from PCM, or Powertrain Control Module, to TCS, or Traction Control System.)
8. Repeat Step 6 until you have reset all the codes in all the computer modules.

Note: Only reset the codes if you want to- it is not necessary to reset them every time you pull the codes.

9. When finished, simply take your key out of the ignition.

How to Interpret Codes
Now, once you've pulled the codes (it will usually be a letter followed by four numbers), you can go to THIS SITE to get an interpretation of what they mean

You cannot go by that reading your getting off of the DIC, That's Alternator voltage. You have to take battery voltage right from the pos. and neg. terminals with a volt meter. A good battery should read between 12.2 to 12.8 volts at the battery.

Watching with interest to see what happens with this car. I take it the owner did not test drive it before buying. Which makes me wonder is there a way to "delay" the codes from showing up to a prospective buyer?

Oh I certainly did test drive it... and drove it almost 500 miles home..... no codes or any problems.... so I tend to agree with what you said....

Interesting.

I know it is new but the first thing I would do is have the battery checked, maybe you already have, by a competent battery shop. The battery and electrical grounds seem to be the central point to so many issues with these cars.

I really wish you all the best in getting it sorted out. Frustrating but you will figure it out.

For one....this information coming from the DIC seems to change each time that I check it... Here are the current readings this morning...28-TCS is NO COMM. 38-RTD is NO COMM, 40-BCM is BO432HC, 58-SDM is U1040HC, and 99-HVAC is NO COMM..... these are different in some aspects from what I was seeing yesterday... Also.... I crawled under the car to see about these stuffers.... pushed up the rubber boots as far as I could and didn’t see any ribbons.... does it have to be jacked up for me to be able to see them? By the way.... thank you for all the help that several of you are being!!! I’m starting to get a bit frustrated with this.....

Did you check battery connections? Clean and tight? It's basically a new car so I doubt if the grounds are bad. When I bought mine it threw a bunch of random codes. Cleaned terminals and tightened cables and started using a battery tender and they never showed up again.
