all you can do is make an offer and stand by your max you think it is worth. If they are willing and you are able the deal will be done. I would offer what I was comfortable with. It may be the owner of the dealership likes it and uses it occasionally with dealer tags and does not care to sell - I have seen this before with a new car that has nearly 1K miles - Demo miles I think they call it.....

Unfortunately it does not matter what you think it is worth, or what people on this forum think it is worth. It is worth whatever the dealer thinks it is worth. Their price is not bad your thinking of 60 not going to happen.

When I was shopping real hard nationwide in November (before deciding to order a 19) the best I could do on a 17 was about 23% off MSRP and that was when they had GM loyalty bonus. I rolled the dice assuming deals would get better in December with year end and news that 19’s would start production in late January. Had I found one that was exactly what I wanted I probably would’ve pulled the trigger but decided that 10% off a 19 ordered exactly how I wanted it was a better “deal” to me. The deal you’ve found seems pretty good to me, offer them less and see where you get but if you really like it I’m not sure if it were me how much I would walk away over. I think the dealers did a pretty good job selling 17’s late last year. Good luck!

I saw a dealers web site yesterday (Florida dealer) where they were "Marking Up" all 18's $1K.... and their banner at the top of their page said "We will not be undersold".....

I was shopping hard in the fall and found a 17 conv manual. I offered what the big dealers were discounting at the time, but the dealer wouldn't do it. The car had been on the lot for over 400 days.....its still there.

I agree that it seems like they would want to move it. That said, seems like 18% off is probably doing pretty good for a non-forum dealer who doesn't do a high volume of Vettes. Hard to find regular dealers who will discount Vettes as deeply as the forum dealers we get used to reading about on here.

Exactly one year ago I purchased a 2016 81K MSRP for 61K. Depends on how long the dealer wants to wait to sell it....pay what you feels is right.

When I was shopping for my second Volt in 2014 I was amazed at how many dealers were hanging on to "new" inventory that was as much as two years old. In some cases their prices on their web sites were still at MSRP. In a couple of cases I made offers to their internet sales department that were rejected, and their counter offers were between 10% and 20% off. It was only when I pointed out to one dealer that the 2015 Volts were being shipped that I was able to get them to deal. I ended up negotiating 46 percent off of the sticker for a "brand new" 3 year old car with full warranty and the tax credit.

What makes dealers hang on to some cars for so long? Obviously, they are losing money every month that the car sits on the lot. Is it some kind of tax loss strategy or something?

In the case of the 2017 referenced by the OP, I think that the demand for manual convertibles is weak, and LBR is not a popular color, either.

It seems that this dealer likes to hang on to inventory for a long time. Their web site shows a new 2016 Z51 1LT at a "summer sell down" price of $54,230 (18.42% discount), and the 2017 Grand Sport convertible is listed at a "Summer Savings" of $5500.

I was able to get 18% off in November at larger volume dealer in Atlanta. My 17 Stingray was there for quite sometime. I to,d them what I could get it at huge dealers and told them meet me where it wasn’t worth my trip. I also didn’t qualify for the additional prior owner rebate. Be happy with your car at your price!

OP, When the big dealers started taking 20% off MSRP, most of them sold out of inventory in short order. There are not a lot of 2017s selling for 20% off remaining. If you want to gamble, then wait to see if you can do better. If it's exactly the car you're looking for, see if you can get them to go to 20% instead of 18% off, and buy the car. It's not a bad deal at 18% off.
