1979 C3 Upper transmission cable.
I bought a new upper transmission cable and a firewall grommet for my 1979 C3.
How are you supposed to get the grommet over the fittings already pressed onto the cable?
Should have asked about the upper speedometer cable, there is no transmission cable.
Don't worry I will not post a question about the kanibbling pin as it is functioning fine.

I been doing this for long time and I have never heard or know of any 'upper transmission cable'.
1979 did not use the 'lock out cable' like previous year Corvettes and it does not run through the firewall.
There is no need for a firewall grommet due to the only two cables I am aware of are:
1.) The shifter cable that attaches to the shifter and goes through transmission tunnel area and not the firewall and it has its own special rubber seal made onto it and is held down by three screws.
2.) The kickdown cable. And it does not go through the firewall because it is on the outside of the transmission and does not need to go through the firewall.

Well apparently, I have not been doing this for a long time. LOL
I meant to say the upper speedometer cable not the transmission cable. Don't I feel like an idiot again.
My 1979 C3 has cruise control that I want to repair also.
I knew what I meant but my fingers got confused typing. LOL

I use a tapered punch that has an end that is just a little bit larger than the smaller diameter end of your speedometer cable.. I hold it and I can slide the grommet down and get it over the metal end of the cable I do it quite often.
And the grommet I am using has only ONE hole in it...becasue if my memory serves me correctly...there is METAL in this grommet so cutting it is out of the question.
