Default 2015 Leaking diff fluid at driver half shaft seal

I have a A8 base 2015 with 43,000 miles. Never driven hard. Last week when the outside temperature never got above freezing during the day I made a couple of short trips to the local market. I noticed and smelled gear oil on the garage floor. Leaf spring was dripping the oil. After I got it on the lift this afternoon I can see the oil is coming from the half shaft seal. Never seen this topic discussed. Going to the dealer next week to show them the pictures (I have the extended warranty). Looking for advice right now. Thanks.

Sorry it's dark up there.

The large spot in the middle was the first puddle. The other4 drops are from after I cleaned the floor the first time

I recall this was an issue with some early C7 and cold temps.

Try searching SHAFT SEAL, AXLE SEAL, DIFFERENTIAL SEAL.

Here's one thread:

Good Luck!

Should be covered under the 5/100.

Well, sorry... but sometimes such happens. I'm sure yours isn't the first or last. Many parts are so good today we don't think about them as "wear" iterms as we used to. Yes, your warranty should take care of it.

For what it's worth (nothing, of course), I see that the early Jaguar XKE IRS I put under my Avanti over 20 years ago has a driver-side seal starting to seep. However, I'm pretty sure the warranty won't cover mine when I decide to tackle it this summer.

Pulled out the service book and this part is covered under the 5/100,000. Now wonder what I will be given to drive while in the shop.

My 6th grade school teacher had a new Avanti (American Motors?). Very nice car as I remember back in 66.

Studebaker............................

good luck getting your seal replacement sorted out............. one thing I can add is that they are exposed to environment, and even small particles of sand can act as abrasives on the rubber (elastomer) material of the shaft seals...............

Studebaker, forgot that make. Thank you.

I'm all too familiar with half shafts and those old style U-joints that lasted about 65,000 miles. I can still change those. These new models, I'm stuck going to a mechanic for most work.

I had this issue and was surprised to find that this was a one day repair...dropped it off in the morning and picked up in the afternoon.
