Decided to buy a 2013 Porsche 911 over a 2017 C7 GrandSport
As the title states I have decided to buy a Porsche over a Corvette. Before the flaming starts let me say that I absolutely LOVE Corvettes. I've owed 10 of them and currently own 3 (2014 Z51 Coupe, 1978 Pace Car & 1965 Convertible) I've also been a forum member for years. I have Corvette blood running through my veins.
First a little background on the decision I've made. My 3 current Corvette's are not daily drivers. My current daily is a 2013 BMW 640i Gran Coupe and I've just grown bored with it. It has been a great car but I wanted something more sporty for my daily driver. I had originally decided to pick up a GrandSport to use as my daily. We have a newborn son and I convinced myself that I would simply strap his car seat into the GrandSport passenger seat whenever I needed to drop him off or pick him up from daycare and I would store the car seat in in the cargo area when not in use.
Just out of curiosity I decided to see if a car seat would fit into back of a newer 911 (991 model) to keep me from having to constantly mess with moving it in and out of the passenger seat. Well as it turns out it a car seat does fit in the newer 911's. They even have the seat anchors build in the back specifically for car seats.
From a price standpoint the 2 cars I was looking at were identically priced. The GrandSport was a 2017 with 4,000 miles and the 911 is a 2013 with 27,000 miles.
For a 39 year old guy with a newborn son the 911 is simply more practical for daily use.
Here are pics of the 2 cars. The Porsche won out

Beautiful 911. Nothing wrong with mixing it up a little, given you'll still have three Vettes to play with!
Gotta say, though...You know you're in a good place when you already own three Vettes, and yet you can still accommodate a single sentence with the words, "newborn", "Porsche" and "practical".

Congrats. Obviously, the 911 is a great choice.

No Doubt! Good choice!
I kicked around thoughts of a 911 before I bought the C7.
The corvette is easier to work on. And parts are cheaper.
Maybe the only reasons. IF I didn't drive so much, I might have bought one.
I am happy for you.

Just curious how the cars are even with the Porsche three years older. I understand the practicality

See no flames . . . There are plenty of folks here that appreciate all excellent sports cars, regardless of nameplate.

Sorry but the 911 does not do anything for me. It’s a tired, 50 year design, that looks like a toad. It’s long overdue for a major design change. The Corvette has gone through 6 generation changes in this time period. I’ll stick with the Vette.

Nicely done
It must be nice to have a key decision in your financial/driving life to decide whether a 911 or Vette will be your "school bus". Well done with either choice.
I considered German alternatives but with retirement coming this June I need a car I can afford to OWN. Repairs, parts, routine maintenance (which I don't do myself) are so different for those two choices that it pretty well dictated my final car purchase ('14 torch red Z51 7MT 1LT Conv). I too realize how fortunate I am to have to make such choices (and my two kids are successfully grown). When I was in your shoes we even had a Nissan minivan!
Enjoy..........

Excellent decision! Both cars are great, but the 911 is a better choice with the young spawn and all. It's a perfect fit.

Have to say you picked the right screen name. 911 just like the C2 is a timeless design but definitely not what I think of with a child seat. At 39 you're doing something right. Congrats.

Did it go something like this?
Honey, I think we're going to go the practical route and pick the 911.
When I had little kids, the choice was a Pontiac Montana! You are doing something right!
Congrats on the child and the 911. That's a beautiful car.

My exact words were......"yes, although the I like the GrandSport more overall I'm going to be practical and buy the 911."
I guess that does sound kind of funny when I look at it from an outside point of view.
