Z07 Brakes

Z07 Brakes
Probably buying Z07 tomorrow.....
I am worried about the brakes after all the horror
stories I have hear.
Can they be replaced with stock steel off non Z07.
It is just a street car and will not see Road Course....Maybe
a trip to Drags or two.
I am getting a great deal or I would not touch a Z07 because
of brakes.
I have heard 5000 miles on tires as well?
Thanks!

Yes, you must pay a bit more attention to the carbon ceramic brakes (CCBs), but they work great and if street driven only, they may well last the life of the car. Usually, a few words to the mechanic and showing them the foam CCB protectors which come with the car goes a long way towards avoiding horror stories.
Yes, the Cup 2 tires are not known for longevity. I've seen people on the forum that got 7k miles on them. Some people get significantly less miles on the regular GS/Z06 tires...LOL. But driven equally, the Cup 2's don't last as long.
I wouldn't worry about the CCBs if you like the deal otherwise. Just figure a tire swap sooner than later in your ownership experience.

If you don't track the car they will most likely last 100k miles. Just need to replace pads on time. They look awesome and stop amazing. The next to zero brake dust is a plus as well.

If you are only drag racing and driving on the street those brakes will last a long time. A lot longer than you probably will own the car.
I wouldn't bother switching them over to the steel brakes as that will cost more money and not provide any benefit. Whoever has been telling you horror stories about ceramic brakes doesn't know what they are talking about. Just be careful not to ding them when taking the wheels off or putting them back on. After having ceramic brake rotors in their shops for the last 9 years GM dealers know how to work with them but you do need to spend time telling other shops that might work on the car how to protect them. Not a big deal as long as an idiot doesn't heed your instructions.
The Cup2 tires provide a lot of grip. They will last up to 8K miles depending on how you drive the car and the wheel alignment. They don't have a lot of tread when delivered and are made from a softer rubber compound that works well on a road course. New Cup2s and new Hoosiers run very similar lap times. Your car will come with about -1.0 to -1.2 camber at all 4 wheels. That isn't a track alignment but it is more aggressive than a true street only alignment. The camber could be reduced to the -0.8 range with no issues. If you don't change it then corner harder so you move the wear points away from the inner part of the tire.
Since you are purchasing a new car make sure you take advantage of the GM Discount at Spring Mountain and take the Corvette New Owner's Course. It is 2 days that you will find most useful in how to drive the car and how to set up the various modes.

Why not just get a Z06 instead of a Z07 if you don't want CCB, Cup tires or to track it?
Just buy Pilot Super Sports and sell your Cup2 tires. you can prob get about a grand for them. Cup 2 tires won't have more grip than PSS on the street unless you really work heat into them.

Why the Z07...... Perfect 2017 Z07 with 900 miles from a 85 year old gentleman for
UNDER 60K!!!
It is hard to turn down for me.
He did not even realize what a Z07 was......But he liked the Gray Color when he
saw it on the showroom at the Dealer

Buy it, have ceramic brakes on my Z07, 911 turbo s, and Jag, my cars are street cars, never had an issue on any of the cars with the brakes, on the street they last almost forever and stop like you can not believe time after time

I have a Z07 that I swapped over to Essex AP Brakes but I don't have any horror stories about the ceramic brakes. They are great brakes and come on a lot of other high dollar cars. The brakes work well on the track and the aftermarket brakes don't do any better. The only advantage the aftermarket brakes have is replacement cost.

Z07 Cup 2 tires don't last very long, and can be a little dicey to run with in cold or wet conditions. Recommendation is generally to replace when worn out (or if you are concerned about drivability for street use) with non-Z07 SS tires .

Agreed with Bill. No need to change it - just be careful with changing wheels, etc.
