Have had my 2000 for over a year now. Might have bought it to fast and didn't read the issues that a early c5 could have. Bought it at a good price. AC went out and dealer stood by their warranty and made it good. Got to reading about the issues i could have. Never did come up about the colomn lock but installed the fix for it. Just replaced the balancer that started to wobble 86000 miles. Now i am worrying about the EBCM. At 86000 miles, is it a sure thing that it will go out!!!!!!!!! Car runs great but just wondering if i should get rid of it or take my chances!!!!!!!!!

Any car can have problems, new or used. As mentioned, some C5s may never have the common problems that are listed on the forum.

I have a 2000 as well. I'm not gonna worry about it. I love my frc. Coolest car I've ever owned and I've owned some cool fast cars in my life. My old Impalas didn't have abs, my 70 Camaro didn't have abs etc. These cars will still stop on a damn dime without abs.

Simply put, you can either worry about it or you can enjoy your car. If you can only worry about it, it might be time to move to another newer c5 or another car in general.

I've also had to replace the AC compressor and harmonic balancer on my 2000. Those parts will inevitably fail. But an EBCM is solid state electronics. It's really just a matter of luck. There are C5s with hundreds of thousands of miles without issue, and cars with very low miles that have had EBCM failures. Unlike the AC and harmonic balancer, it's not a foregone conclusion that your EBCM will go bad. It likely only affects a small percentage of them. But they made over 200,000 C5s, so at this point, even if only 10% have failed, that's a lot of people to complain on the internet. Don't worry about it. Just drive it. Even if it does go out, it's not the end of the world.

I'm new to the world of Corvettes and this forum but I believe some things are universal regardless of what you drive. If you no longer feel safe or no longer enjoy driving your vehicle then it's time to replace it. I personally have never owned a vehicle I was afraid to drive cross country. When my vehicle gets to that point I get rid of it. That same philosophy will guide me when it come to my new (to me) Corvette. Your car, your decision..

Like Corvette#2 said, close to 250,000 C5s were made (247,000?) and no where near that many has had a bad EBCM. I'm on my 4th C5 (1998, 1999, 2000, 2002) and none had that problem. Am I worried about it....a little, but will I get rid of one of my two current C5s? Nope. Well maybe, if the price is right

I have a 2000!FRC . I replaced the ebcm .. if it goes again I will replace it. Even when it goes you can still drive it.. it's an 18 yo car . There are lots of parts cars

Buy wires,mine were more trouble than the plugs.

'99 coupe here. Once a month or so, where it is safe, from a slow speed I hit the brakes hard activating ABS just to keep everything firing. 120k and doing fine.

I don't know, I bet there are owners in here with 100K miles or more who have not had to replace these items...

My A/C is still ok, but the harmonic balancer went out at 70k
