They all where level when new. 50 years latter most of these cars were wrecked in the front. Some where repaired good others not so well. Some have reproduction bumpers that don’t fit and others have original bumpers that fit.

Thanks a lot. I guess my car was never hit in the front . One other question . How close to the headlights should they be ? Mine are about a inch below the headlights. Do you think that is ok? Thanks Joe P

I'd say that's too close -- but pictures would help...

My 65 maroon coupe that I sold were great, the green convertible I just bought needs some work on the driver's side. I'm not sure I can do much, looks like the bumper itself is bent up and back down. I plan on doing some studying on it tomorrow.

I just went and looked st my 67 because I thought yours looked high but I think it looks ok although without the headlights in it’s hard to tell. I was going to measure but that’s hard because of the curvature of the valence. Anyway, I think you may be ok. I tried to get two fingers between the light and the bumper and couldn’t. Hope that helps.

Install your headlight buckets, with the Headlight doors, adjust them, and you should be able to roll them completely around without contacting the bumper. If you can’t, you have an issue with the fiberglass or the bumpers are not installed correctly.

Here you go. Maybe this will stop someone from hurting their neck or dropping their computer:

It does look like the driver's side is bent, but the other side is perfect.

It does seem like once they have been hit they are almost never quite right. I see lots of otherwise perfect cars for sale with out-of-wack bumpers, usually the front. And because of the thin horizontal nature, even a slight misalignment is noticeable, well to me anyways.

Because of the slight horizontal V-configuration towards the front - it's very difficult to evaluate bumper fit/level position by anything other than a very low positioned, horizontal photo.

I’ve always referred to pictures when the cars were new for things like bumper fit. JohnZ had compiled a lot of assembly line pics in a presentation he made several years ago on the St. Louis assembly process. From those pics, it looked like there was, what I would call, some variation in the fit. There are several of those pics below.
From my days with GM, I know cars used in photo shoots were detailed to the extreme prior to the shoots. With that said, the last pic showing Zora next to what looks like a ’66, is probably the best representation of the designed fit. That’s the fit I tried to duplicate with my ’67.
