Default Cracked 2016 Z06 rim

I did a forum search and found a few mentions of C7 Z06 cracked rims but no mention of outcome with dealership/GM. I brought the Z to the tire shop this afternoon as it has a slow leak in the rear passenger tire - thought I'd picked up a nail or screw - nope... Tire guys pulled me out of the waiting area to show me the cracks (sorry I didn't think take a pic.) I have three cracks all from the inside of the rim - meaning from the very outside inner/lip edge going inward to the rim. Two are about six inches apart and the third is on the other side of the rim. The cracks are in total about two inches long. I have 9,047 miles on the car and no, the rim wasn't scraped or curbed or bent.

Anyone else have a similar issue and did GM take care of it under the B2B warrantee?

Thanks!

I have a rim that slow leaks. I can't find any cracks. How visible are they?

50/50 shot at the dealer but most likely a no due to miles.

Check the inner lip, you'll see a hairline crack

No luck with my dealer. I even asked him to escalate to GM so at least they get the data but no response.

Mine were bent wheels (2) but it either happened at the dealer or right after I picked up the car from service. I did call the dealer right away after I picked up the car and noticed shaking on the freeway. At first they wanted me to pay or use my auto insurance to pay to get them replaced. After I pressed some, the dealer spoke to GM and I was able to get my wheels replaced as "Good Will" and "One Time Exception". They still have my car today and waiting for the wheels to arrive from GM Michigan. Mine has 5,000 miles and is a 2017. After I pick up the car, I am going to get the Wheel Insurance, which is good for 5 years/Unlimited miles. This was a real pain and I have lost confidence in our wheels.

Have a slow leak on my rear driver side tire. Pulled the wheel off the car last night expecting to find a nail. No luck. Taking it to Discount Tire to find the source of the leak. I'm hoping it isn't a cracked wheel. I'll report back here if it is.

So both my back rims are cracked and dealership/GM will do nothing. I'm left no choice but to purchase two new rims to get the car back on the road at the moment. 2016 Z06 (build date of 5/2016) with 9,047 miles on it...

I've never cracked a rim(s) before in my life, but obviously I have now (first for everything - right?) Anyway to say this leaves a sour taste in my mouth is putting it mildly. Most of the 9,047 miles are highway. I will be looking to replace the OEM rims when I replace the tires (still on the original tires). I know how I drive and between mostly highway and of course some street I honestly don't know how this has happened - I just know I don't trust the OEM rims - don't think they are sound and am truly disappointed in GM's lack customer service. Anyway - rant over.

Sorry for all your troubles. Aftermarket rims are no picnic either. I bent HRE's about 4 times here in LA before I gave up on them. What I would suggest is looking at the OEM Cup Wheels that are on the GS and leftover from the C6 as those where made in Italy by speedline and not in China like the current C7 Z06 Wheels.

Hirohawa - thanks so much for the response - I'll look into your suggestions. It's just so, so, odd - my 2001 C5 with polished aluminum rims which I owned for three years and my 2015 C7 Stingray which I owned for 22 months with base black rims - never a problem with cracked rims. This goes for any of my other cars I owned in between (all driven here in LA). Ah well who knows - just very disappointing.

you didn't hit any construction and they just cracked? I hear a lot of these and can't believe the wheels aren't made stronger

GM sucks plain and simple. Loved Corvettes my entire life, dream come true but unfortunately this is probably my last GM vehicle after owning several.

These wheels crack if you look at them the wrong way

Update on my situation. The leak was from the chrome flaking near the bead. The wheel wasn't cracked.

The cups have been coming all from Mexico. I just bought my 4th set
since January of 2015. 2 sets of machined 1 set of black and now some black chrome cups on the way.

Just a thought, one of the vendors that also sells wheels on CF is in your general area, Irwindale, Deity Motorsports. You may want to start talking to them before you switch wheels. Never hurts to have someone "local" imo. They have threads on C7 Gen and Z06 re their new wheels. If I get out that way, I'm going to visit them.

I also see another vendor local to you. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...vette-z06.html

I've cracked two of the satin black cup wheels and bent two more. So far no issues with my Forgelines.

That's disappointing to hear. Why did they stop using Speedline? Are the old C6 cup wheels also problematic?

Myself and my friends bought the 5 year tire & wheel insurance. They have had rims replaced and all of us get a new tire if we get a nail (not sure how I always get them in the rears). It’s been a god scent. Another option, since rims are so finicky no matter which you get, good luck.
