Needle bearing on drain plug LS7
so I started the header install today and drained the oil and found this on one of the magnetic plugs. around 1/4” long. I’m thinking maybe from the trunnion/ rocker arm assy? could used any of you guys thoughts that have been inside an LS7. thanks...
I found this on my magnetic drain plug on my LS7 while changing the motor oil. I’m not original owner and only put around 1000 miles on the car myself. It’s a 14k mile car. Any thoughts? I’m thinking maybe trunnion/rocker arm assy? About 1/4” long. I’ve never been inside an LS motor before and need knowledgeable thoughts, please.

You've got an '07 Z...and there was a bad batch for that year (earlier in the production run I believe). Are you the original owner? If not, yours may have been replaced by now, but you have errant needle bearings still in there.
Pull the valve covers and inspect them all. Or just replace them with new OE rockers, or rebuild yours with the CHE bushing kit.

thanks everyone. I hear good things about Straub’s rocker/trunnion assembly so I’ll drop the $500 and go that direction, shortly. I’ll be asking you guys, later about doing that chore when I’m ready. I’m happy/very lucky it made it to the magnet w/o incident...

Many just install new OEM rockers and call it a day. That's the route I took when upgrading my heads / guides. The original rockers on my 29k mile 07Z appeared to be fine when removed.

finished up my mod list yesterday and couldn’t be happier. Installed my long tubes (JBA 4-2-1) w/catted c-pipe, brand new OEM rockers, starter blanket, plug wire boot insulators, E3 plugs, muffler mod w/m2w, stage8 header bolts and new Felpro valve cover gaskets/grommets. It’s really nice to wrench on this thing, I can’t believe how easy/simple the LS engine is to work on. figured I saved a bunch of $$$ by doing it myself! I still got it!

Yes. I also ran a flexible magnet inside the oil pan while empty several times and never retrieved anything else. Dielectric greased all electrical connections and anti seized all bolts while at it too.

So you found a failed rocker arm? You going to retune for the LT's? I see a VR CAI, so I imagine its already been tuned before.

I’m going to have it tuned (mildly aggressive) now it’s all completed. Previous owner said he just put tires on it, untouched the car. Yes, one was more looser/sloppy then the others. The Vararam was kept from my old LS2 Corvette.
