Window Tinting above limit question
This is my first corvette - am sure there will be a few opinions on this question
Saw a red 2017 C7 on the TN Footshills parkway after running the tail in October. He had windows tinted and it looked awesome ....had me sit in the drivers seat and the vision was great even as it was getting dark.
Was in process of arranging to have windows tinted at same place he had his done. Just so happens my Z06 wintered over in Murfreesboro TN where his tint shop is....the tint would be above legal limit but not outrageously so.
now I will be driving it back to IL after the NCM Annual Bash in April if the IL roads are not totally pothole filled from the winter
An Indiana friend says to me last weekend- You are crazy going above limit on tint and especially anything on windshield - that car is going to be a target for a ticket............
is this the case?
thanks

From my experience the front windshield tint is most likely to get you pulled over. Usually one step darker than the legal limit is forgiven for the rest of the car, but it can attract a ticket albeit rare. Obviously different states and cities have different laws and the officer’s mood / or your attitude is normally the deciding factor.

Both my F250 and Z06 have 75% front glass and 20% sides and/or rear. It is dark but you really cannot tell the front glass is done, in my opinion. I've never once been pulled over in either (for any reason) and I've towed from Atlanta to Milwaukee, Austin, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Bowling Green, etc.

This is completely dependent on state of residence and relevant statutes.
I had a car tinted for use at my Vegas home, everything was "commonly done" and perfectly legal there. It's a sunny desert.
When I eventually shipped it back to New England, the problems started pretty quickly. The car was obviously tinted to a darker tint than locally standard (or legal) - and the first thing they picked up on was the front windshield. Took two days for a local LEO to stop me and discuss it with me. Nice guy, respectful conversation, but the front tint was off the next day.
The rest of the car remained tinted but it required a medical exception; but no medical exceptions were even possible for the windshield.
YMMV.

No issues at night either, guess you get used to it.

my C6Z06 is pretty much over the limit I did the back window a bit lighter than the sides after seeing how hard it was to see out of my C5 with limo all around....can't see doing the windshield ......here in FL they don't hassle you too much for tint unless you are a gangbanger and then its just a secondary thing.....my rule has always been if I get stopped put all the windows down especially at night and turn on the interior lights...everyone is happy and no drama....

I have 2% on every car I own, you don’t need to know or see what I’m doing!! Never been pulled over cause the judges here were told to stop pulling people over for tint. Yes at night it’s hard to see out but I’m totally used to it since I’ve had tint this way for over 20 years

I think you're right. I'm 69 years old and have no desire to have my windows tinted, even though I think it looks good. Our son occasionally reminds me of how "cool" my car would look with tinted windows. I've driven cars with tinted windows and I don't like it. Enjoy the dark tint while your eyes are still good.

Similar situation. Bought a 2016 Z a few days prior to Christmas snow so only drove a little & garaged it.
First car I've owned with tint. At first I actually thought the rear view mirror was in night mode but then realized
that was the rear hatch tint. So I don't know if I'm Illinois legal or not. Is there any way to tell by looks?
No tint on my windshield.

Every state has diff rules on this and some states enforce it and others don't.Since the facto glass is already tinted some, adding a legal tint on top of that might be too much.
Not much of a prob in SC,but they will allow a max windshield tint down to the AS1 line.
