Default How did this car get jacked?

https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...c1d58f956c.jpg

Saw this in a thread yesterday, and asked the op where the jack was positioned to get the car in the air.
With the stand in the place a jack would go I wondered how it was raised.
Jacking from the rear side location would not get the car high enough to put a stand under the front jacking position.
Never got an answer.

the only time I use the jack pucks is when my car is on a lift, if I'm working on jack stands I always raise both ends from the cradles

By "cradles" are you referring to the cross members?

yep... I always use a block of wood at least 1" thick on top of the jack so the cradles won't get damaged

Definitely doesn’t hurt to be cautious, but I’ve never used wood cushioning and have never had a problem.. It’s probably riskier without, but I’ll continue like I’ve always done.. at least until y’all see me start a “well I cracked my crossmember” thread lol

I use what's pictured under the cradles 1-1/2" & 1/4" plywood with hole for jack that jacks to about 21" and add the 3/4 plywood on the floor to gain extra height.

I drive the front of the car onto a flat 2x12, then jack the car up slightly under either door, then use a 2x6 about 1 foot long at each crossmember and alternate. At this height, almost any service is achievable. Oil change, Long tube header install, Etc..

Yes. The terminology "cradle" is more appropriate for a C5 because they "cradle" both the engine (front) and transaxle (rear) in a more tub-like assembly, rather than simply being "flat" points for items to be mounted to.

I will also echo some of what has been said. I jack my car up via the cradles (rear first, front second) and jack stands then go directly to the cradles themselves. No need for jacking pucks and if it takes me longer than 10 minutes to do then I'm doing something wrong.

If you are concerned about damage to the cradles then wood does help.

Keep in mind - and that it has been discussed here on occasion - that the jigs used to create the cradles did not produce 100% square to square assemblies between cars; one of the attributions to having a C5 corner-weighted for proper alignment. If any damage were to occur to a cradle then it can likely be attributed to impurities in construction. This is why it can be difficult to say "well, don't put a bare jack or stand to the cradle" because on one hand it may be fine for one car and to another C5 a jack or stand could be placed on a weaker point.
