Default Well I let my wife drive...

Had 2 drinks out with some friends and very reluctantly let the wife drive home. As soon as she starts the car I thought "man this thing feels like it's got a way bigger cam in it from the passenger seat." Then two seconds later I hear "the check engine light is on."

pop the hood and pull the drivers side FRC off to see plenty of sparks from the wire laying against the primary. People make fun of me for having spares, but I'm certainly glad I always stay prepared

when you have a safe and sober driver, yes. And to be fair, one was a 20 ouncer, one was a pint, and I did kill off a few ounces of a third that would have been wasted otherwise.

Just funny that it happened the one time she gets in the seat and is assuring me that everything will be fine.

"very reluctantly" LET the wife drive....lol...wow.

I let my girl drive my built Z06 and she lets me drive her modded C6 '09 6spd...we're cool with each other like that.

I hope you didn't blame the lady for breaking your old Corvette...lol.

Stuff like this ALWAYS goes wrong when my wife drives...and to no fault of her own. She refuses to drive the Corvette now.

Heat socks are a great suggestion. I added them to mine when I did headers and the wires have remained in great shape.

If this thread was in Off Topic the first reply would've been, "pics of wife?".

It's not too late to ask

Glad you found the issue, always helps to have a couple spare wires in the trunk.

Your girl has a modded c6z. I'm not surprised that you're comfortable letting her drive. My wife has a corolla.

If my wife had any experience in a fast RWD car I wouldn't be nervous. However my car has four times the horsepower of the only car she's ever really driven

Yeah I considered them when I did my headers, but I just don't like how they look. This is the second time in 4 years of having the headers, so I'm willing to swap them out every couple years.

Was fully expecting it and not disappointed

Thank you for being responsible and asking your wife to drive.

For those that don't want their significant other driving their Vette because of their lack of skill with it, why not teach them how to drive it?
My wife chooses to not drive our Vette that often, but I have every confidence in her ability to do so. She's driven other Vettes, our '69 Z-28 (4.88 gears and cross-ram Bo Laws engine); SS396 (Roger Vinci engine); 383 Dart GTS; etc. And even at retirement age (don't tell her I told you), she still loves the sound of a nicely built/tuned engine.

Yeah, I have no real reason not to let her drive it, its just that I drive everywhere if we're going together unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Once we actually have income again we'll be looking to pick her up a c5z or ls3 c6. I need to let her practice more but it is hard based on how particular I am about the way my car is operated.

I nearly had a heart attack last night when she flipped the headlight switch from off to full on in one motion, I always go one click slowly, then the next click. She isn't as familiar with cheap chevy switches I guess

dbgoodwin, thank you for being responsible.

My wife had to drive the Z for a month after her S4 was attacked by a school bus (but that is another story), by the end of the month she was doing alright with it (seeing that she normally drives a Auto trans). She still doesn't like driving the Z, saying it's to big, and her new S4 is Faster (she loves the DCT trans, but misses the V8 rumble her old S4 had).

Mark.

My wife does not like driving the Vette, "Everybody is checking her out".

You sound like you're OCD! Lol

I turn mine from off to on in one quick motion or the headlights won't pop up, doing it quick makes them pop up.

Turn it slow, they just don't pop up.

Yeah I know it's not right, but I don't wanna mess with it until it doesn't work anymore, being lazy.

Yeah, it does seem a little OCD. My starting procedure is pretty OCD as well, and it seems ridiculous when I was trying to explain it to my wife last night.

Step 1: key in ignition
Step 2: Pause for a 1 count
Step 3: Key to ACC
Step 4: Seatbelt on to give a 2 count with the key on ACC
Step 5: Key to on but not start
Step 6: Clutch in, neutral, clutch out, jiggle the shifter left to right twice, pause then left to right again
Step 7: Clutch back in and start the car.
Step 8: Handbrake off and put it in gear to drive away

It seems really bad when I play it out, but I'm only like this about the way cars are operated. I do the exact same thing with my wife's corolla and my truck when I'm driving those.
