275/40/17 all around on 8.5" c6 wheel up front?
Im waiting for my bank account to grow to get a set of ccw's. However the tires I have are manufactured in 2001 and I suppose unsafe. Not to mention, as far as I can tell extremely noisy.. I suppose due to the belts rotted inside?
I have a set of c6 wheels on which I hate on my car.. plan to "dip em man!" a satin black because chrome is just too disco on my car..
so I have c6 8.5s in the front.. can I run 275/40/17's up there until I can buy my dream wheels; ccw classics?

C6 fronts are 18" not 17"
If they were 17" x 8.5" it can be done, but it is right at the edge of how large a tire can be used on that width rim. If you look a sources like TireRack.com they give a specifications tab that shows the recommended rim width for each tire. On 275/40/17 most tires have a manufacturer recommendation of at least 9", however there are some that show 8.5".
In short, a lot of people have put 275/40/17 on 8.5" wheels, but it is pushing it a little.
Good luck.

So no fitment issues as far as turning radius? I commonly go full lock pulling out of places.. dont really want to deal with tire rub unless the rub wont do much damage.
Would they look funky? Could be a few years before I find ccw's.

Fitment for the 17' x 8.5" depends on what offset they are.
If they are aftermarket who knows. If you take one off and look on the backside many of them show the offset. Frequently it is cast into the back of one of the spokes, or some are stamped/etched with the info.
The C4's are 56 mm offset. C5 17 x 8.5 are 56 mm. C6 18 x 8.5 are 56mm.
If your aftermarket wheels are 56mm (or close) they should fit fine with no rubbing or issues.

Backspacing is more important that offset when discussing different width wheels. C4 wheels are 17x9.5 with 56mm offset which is 7.5" backspacing. C5/C6 front wheels are 8.5" wide also with a 56mm offset but the backspacing is 7". If your aftermarket wheels follow similar dimensions C5 front wheels you will have 0.5" more clearance on the inside when turning lock to lock.
A 275 tire will physically fit on the wheel, but it may look a little weird and probably have uneven wear. Nothing bad will happen from running them and they shouldn't rub (again assuming the dimensions of the aftermarket wheel).
