It can be cheaper yes, but a lot of times people to know exactly what the price of shipping is right then and if you are an idividual like me, you make a best guess because you don't have something boxed or weighed.

You're right....for some parts it's not worth it. I have also found that some people don't want to bother with finding a box and packing parts for shipment themselves so they take it to UPS/Fedex and have them box it for (what I consider) outlandish prices.

As a consumer and shipping parts, you get bent over backwards. When I use my work account the price is less then half.

Case in point. I shipped two items to the same destination using UPS, same box and weight. I used my work for one and it cost me 12.00, I used ups itself on the fly as I was on vacation and it cost me 45.00.
Same thing with Fedex. Most of my sales now are local so there is no shipping, im not going to ship a 20.00 part to someone and then charge them 20 to ship, its not worth it.

Since you're not selling anything in this thread, I'm going to move this over to C5 General and let others comment on it there.

I do agree that shipping costs have gotten outrageous and sometimes it just isn't worth it to buy a smaller part as the shipping exceeds the cost of the part.

Add to this that some companies have a "standard shipping charge". And some increase it as the sum of your order increases. So if you buy a part for $9.99 your shipping charge may be $15.00... $99.99 then $25.00. A profit is built into these charges IMO...

Many companies have free shipping. Search for your part until you locate it with free shipping. I would love to see every company that charges for shipping get put out of business.

shipping IS expensive, weight, size, location all play a part....I have been burned a few times when I sold something and didn't price it accordingly....you would think a small 5x5x2 box would be cheap but it can be anywhere from $4.95-12

are some people screwing you? absolutely, some sell the part for less and make it up on the shipping......

free shipping, the cost is built in....nothing is free

my wife shops at Sephora online for makeup, they ship everything in the same damn box whether its one lip liner or 5 different things

its hilarious when she opens the box...why do they do this?

volume

they can afford to do it because they get a set rate for that size box and trust me they aren't losing any money..makeup is crazy $$$ they can afford to ship that way

I reuse the boxes to ship parts so if I sell you something your wife may get excited when she sees a Sephora box on the door step only to find out there are Corvette parts inside

I understand that there are costs to ship items. But when a company is making a profit on the sale of an auto part or makeup, why not ship the item at cost? $$$ that's why...
My wife also orders online from a very well know TV shopping company with 3 letters.
This company kills you with shipping charges. Pi$$es me off...

I’ve seen other abuses like above. I bought 2 pages of flat stickers, about 8x11 in size. Stickers cost about $7, shipping was $6.50. For flat pages?

For big items folks, my friend who’s also a member here has used FASTENAL Shipping Services and the prices were much lower than the big ones. Another alternative for big stuff is Greyhound.

I sell and ship car parts, toys, gaming stuff and computer gear. What gets me is when a seller comes out and factors in more to get more. I had a guy sell me a set of gaming cards and charged me $18 shipping. Fine ok when packaged arrived label said $6.95. I sent an email stating why the high cost of shipping when it shows you paid less. I got the excuse he had to buy a box, drive to the post office, box it up and wait in line. He had to get reimbursed for that. I have ran into this many upon many times.

I had a guy that wanted to tack on a extra $50 to shipping fees for the same reason. I told him to blow it out his *** he can keep his item. His excuse was he lived 20 miles from the shipping store. Not my problem and don't sell items then online.

Stores that charge insane shipping I move away from.

I hear you, try getting parts shipped to Canada. Yikes, and there is no such thing as free shipping for us Canucks. Not only is there no free shipping but we don't even get any kind of a discount. Full pop all the way.

That's why I am a stockholder in FEDEX and UPS is on my watch list.

I was talking about used Corvette parts ,your right I only shop were where is free shipping .Was looking at some of my smaller Corvette parts the other day after adding in shipping what's the point ,just too much money and would really like to pass then on to people that could use them ,not going to get rich selling them anyway .. I friend said the other day something about the sur. charge when gas was $5-6.00 a Gal .now that gas is cheaper they still have the sur charge .. For whatever reason just not worth selling smaller parts any more ..

It cost me $237.22 to have 2 seats shipped in one box(24x24x48), weighed around 125 lbs.(187 lbs. billable) from IN to WA(UPS). Suppose to take 4 days ended up taking 9 days, they lost them(seriously lost them, had NO IDEA WHERE THEY WERE for 24 hours). They arrived in good shape considering the box had some good size holes in it, the 2 extra off-loads, and the 2 extra reloads.
