Default 02 Z06 Oil Pressure - paranoid or not?

81,xxx Miles on my 02 Z06. Daily driver and an occasional autocrosser. Recently, my oil pressure sensor died so I replaced it with the DPE relocation unit with the manual gauge. Nice stuff. Everything came right back to fully operational. Pressure pegged at 40psi and only rises when I really jump on it. Then I changed my oil this weekend. 7qts 5W30 Mobil 1 High Mileage and the proper AC Delco filter. Same as always.

The last two days on my 45 minute drive to and from work, towards the end of my drive, the oil pressure falls to 26-ish psi as I sit in traffic at idle. Rises to 35-40psi while driving. Oil temp is between 212 and 230. Air temp is upper 70's. AC off. No odd sounds and the car runs strong. Checks the dip stick and oil level is correct. No foaming, no leaks, no drips, no burning smells.

I've read a million threads on this topic and some say its normal and some say its a concern.

Just wondering if I gotta start doing more research or if I'm just being overly paranoid. Thanks everyone.

Pegs at 40 when cold? That seems odd to me. None the less, you are well above the 10 psi/thousand RPM rule of thumb. Drive and be happy.

you are in FL like me...as it gets hotter you will see lower psi at idle as the oil heats up and thins out....LS1 oil pressure is all over the map depending on who you talk to as long as you are in the mid to upper 20's or better at idle you are fine...my 99 and my wifes 02 were way different......that being said

keep an eye on it.....if you find it drops to 20 or less at idle when hot ( up to temp) you may have an issue....mine did this for awhile and then one day on the way home stopped at traffic light.....20.....next light...18....next light 15.....ahhhhh crap....a mile or so later 10...8......bad day

never made a sound until it died....turns out this was the culprit

pewter how many miles did you have on that?

x2 on varying oil pressures..seen them new with 20sih at idle, mine has always been 42
When your filter gets old it can vary or dance around some.

just hit 150K miles on mine and at 550rpms I am at 20-25 at operating temp and cold start 50psi. every engines psi will be different based on mileage, and wear. Start to worry when you get on it and the oil pressure does not build or rises very slowly, or it changes by 10psi up or down.
