Default Value question, 2004 Commemorative Edition.

Exchanged messages, seller wants me to look at car. Priced too high at $19900. 2004 Corvette Convertible 6Spd Lemans Commemorative Edition with 50,000 miles. Looks like a nice breezier, got all the options. Thinking if it's as good as he say's, it's a 15k car. It's the dead of winter here. Thinking the seller will be pissed with an offer of 15k, but that's life, take it or leave it. I have a really nice 92 that will have to go, so that complicates the situation.

What do you all think? Seen a mint 2008 with 30,000 miles sell here on the forum for 22k this week.

I think it's an $18K+ car if in excellent condition.

19,500k seems high, may I ask you why it's worth that? I though C5's were dropping in price towards C4 territory?

It that because it's an 04, Commemorative Edition, Breezier and 6M ?

To me, $15K would be way low for that car. I would agree that it should bring $18-19K if there are no problems. And unless the car has very high miles, a C5 is not in the C4 value range, especially a 2004.

Sounds like the later C5's are the desirable ones ??

Offer him $15K. He might be desperate this time of the year, but don't expect him to take it.

with many of the comments above...$18-19k is about where this one should sell assuming it is a nice, well maintained car with no stories attached.

He needs to sell it for a truck he's looking at. Looks like there's no loan on it. Roads are crappy with more snow on the way. It's in a buddies garage. Think I'll take a look at it and if it's good to go, offer 15k nicely. I can always go up.

The exception IMHO would be if the VIN was in the range of 45110258 - 45125500 and had NOT received a replacement drivers side fuel tank.

Vehicles in that range were often subject to the drivers side tank having the bung to which the cross over tube is attached crack away from the tank.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/albu...ictureid=42084

GM provided a 10 year or 100K mile extended warranty to vehicles in that VIN range but that has long since expired. Out of pocket cost for a dealership to replace a tank should it fail is around $2500 or more. Probably NOT a DIY project unless you have access to a lift and have some technical abilities. Tanks on the C6 and C7 are identical to those on the C5 so a used tank from a C6 or C7 is a possibility to save some cash. I would definitely want to know the year of the vehicle a used tank came from since you could end up with one from the suspect 04 VIN range.

Not saying don't purchase the car but CAVEAT EMPTOR on 04's in that VIN range. JMHO

Thanks, going to ask for the VIN.

C5's I don't have experience with, only drove a 98 once. Have a 92 right now, great car with 57,000 miles, everything works. Thing is, my heart is set on a breezier and 6M + the added HP over the LT1.

...can't imagine anyone in their right mind that would let their '04 Commemorative vert like that go so cheap....oh well...bottom feeders might even offer $10,000 for this Vette...

I have one in very good condition, but its a daily driver. I would take the 15K oh as a down payment towards 19K - 20K depending on the day and if my wife has just washed her!!

Found a nice C6, 2009 with 18,000 miles 1LT, 6M, yellow vert breezier. Dealer wants 31k. I offered 27k without looking at it. The dealer didn't even bother to respond.

C4s are are the lowest priced vettes....i dont think the c5s will ever get that low, they are too well designed.

just try and buy a few nice '03 or '04 C5 verts and the pricing reality will kick you in the pants.

earlier c5 coupes are the least expensive if you want to be at the lower price point

My 04 CE has 45k miles on it and I'd stick at 20K.

I heard 6M adds 10% in value.

CR-I just bought one of these last June with less than 20K on the clock. PM me for details. I paid 21k, which was under what the Buick/GM dealership had her listed for.
