How many coils can you cut off the front of a c2 with stock coils safely ?

Dunno...I'd just swap them out...they aren't very expensive and you've got to pull them to cut em anyway...

Consider a set of 550# coils (at $80 a pair...cheap)...so cheap, its not worth the trouble of cutting the old ones...will lower the front an inch...and stiffen things up a bit too...

Just a thought...

Already have the springs out and have cut stock coils before they are always better them aftermarket. They still ride good and perform even better but have never done one on a c2 or any other vette for that matter. Just wondering who has done this so I don't cut to much off

It might help knowing how much you are trying to lower it. But you definitely are wanting to cut portions of a coil and not a full coil unless you are going for a totally slammed look. Better to cut too little and have to cut a second time even though front suspension disassembly is a pain. If trying to lower it over an inch - I think I might look for new coils or custom coils.

I'm going to cut one full coil. Unless one of you have done so and it didn't work (too low, **** rubs). If this is the case let me know. Not doing it this weekend!!

Usually by those who do it a 1/2 coil at a time and see where you're at. You may have to do it more than once.

This is the reason I'm going with Global West coil over conversion with adjustable hight and dampening. Easy to lower or raise as needed as I make changes. Stock springs are hard to figure the correct hight and spring rate/shock settings. I'm not so concerned with handling better than stock as much as adjustability. JMO.

One coil is about a 1.5 -2" " drop, might want to start with 1/2 coil.

I haven't bought the wheels I'm going to run yet so I'm not worried about fender clearance. Just ride height

Hey Reno,

Probably not entirely the same, but it is the front springs we're referring to.

About 23-24 years ago, I took one full coil out of the spring on the '62. It brought it down about 1.5"-2". I was able to obtain my desired height, and that's the way it still sits today.

I know several people will say that it's not really correct to do it this way, but I have to tell you, it's worked for me and the car still drives and tracks good. And there's been no problems obtaining alignment.

Worse case scenario is that you cut the springs. If it's too low, or causes you problems, then you just take them out and replace them with the new springs.

Take a few pics of before and after if you have an opportunity.

Yes the rear is also lowered to match the front.

Yes I bought the entire vette brakes suspension package that included front and rear springs, shocks, and sway bars everything matched together. It handles as well as the diamondback radial tires will allow.

Another vote for VB&P 550 front springs.

550 front springs.
7 leaf rear with longer spring bolts.
