What year is your Corvette?
That does not look like the original ground wire.
The alternator picks up its ground from the mounting bolts.
That wire brings a ground from the alternator to the radiator support.
The other end of that wire should connect to the radiator support, it brings a ground to the headlight and horn brackets.

Hi B,
It appears the connector and wire tail may have been cut out of the harness to make that ? (don't know what to call it).
You don't say what year your car is... photo shows 80?

Maybe under the clip is the location the connector started it's life?
