ZR1 Torn...(What are your thoughts?)
Happy Saturday guys!
I know ZR1 stuff should be on that page but I dont own one....yet. However, I've been talking to a few guys and mentioned that Im seriously considering getting the new beast. Im probably going to go another summer with my current Z06 and perhaps order one for spring 2020. Anyway, most of the guys are telling me NOT to do it and just wait for the C8. From a horsepower perspective, I only have the halltech, Corsa Extremes w/ X-pipe and thinking about getting a Tony M. TB. Im told if I get a pulley swap w/ tune coupled with my current set up would basically get the car right there at around the same HP as the base ZR1. In addition to the added power, I do like the looks of it but if I can save $30-$40k and basically have the same car should I still do it? I dont know man...Im torn...Perhaps some of you are going through the same thing as I am? Decisions, decisions...
What are your thoughts? What would you do?
BTW...That damn orange is sick! Would have to go all in!

I like the looks too. If someone came up with a replica front bumper (in urethane, not fiberglass or carbon fiber) for the Z06, I might go for that.

A z06 with zr1 power levels is not, nor will ever be a zr1. Get the zr1 if you want it.
zr1 can get a pulley and tune too ya know.

Two things I wouldn't do:
- Wait for the C8. By the time you can buy a C8 at MSRP your ZR1 will be ready to trade in anyway
- Get the Z06 if the price is close enough to the ZR1
The Z is all the car 99.999% of buyers will ever need, but if you're tracking it, the ZR will have better cooling and top end sprints. But I doubt you'd ever feel the power difference on the street. So if the price is close enough, make the leap.

Now there's the logical side of me saying just upgrade to a Magnuson TVS2650 (heat soak issue resolved, not like it ever happened to me) do a mild cam, direct injection upgrade and tune it lol
now here's the issue, (the logical side of me vs i must have it foolish side of me)
Plus where I live in Orlando there's no where I can utilize all that power already with my full bolt on stage 3 Z06/Z07 (too much traffic) unless its at the track.

I simply could not afford the ZR1, so I did the next best affordable thing for my budget. I purchased a 2019 Z06 and sent is to Callaway in Connecticut to have the SC757 package installed.. Saved a ton of money and I can definitely give the ZR1 a run for the money.

The way that i see it is just enjoy what you have now, there's always going to be a newly released vette every year waiting until you're truly ready to upgrade. Best thing to do would be to wait for the next generation.

I've been torn about it exactly like you... The only thing stopping me is that huge difference in sticker price for what basically is a new front facia, upgraded super charger etc.. same car with bolt on added accessories at dealer premium with a warranty.

I just know that in my mind I would fine until a ZR1 actually rolls up and I would be right back at square 1 again (I think).

Yup, I was in a very similar situation to you, I even had my name on a list to get a '19 ZR1 at MSRP. In the end it would've stretched me a bit financially or I would've had to trade-in my GT-R daily, which to the shock of many fellow Corvette-owners, I actually enjoy quite a bit. In the end, I found a '15 3LZ Z06/Z07 with 1,600 miles for a great price. I figure I'll enjoy this for a bit then decide if I want to mod the crap out of it or trade for a ZR1 once they've saturated the market a bit. And if I decide to get out of it for ZR1 or C8, I won't eat much depreciation. If money were no object I'd have gone for the ZR1, but thinking logically it just didn't make sense over a lightly used or discounted 2017 Z06 with the C8 wild card coming so soon.
I say do the pulley/tune, enjoy the car for another year or so, then see where the ZR1 market is. Even just 10% off $140,000 is a LOT of money to save.

and Halltech looking for 680-700 rwhp. Should surprise a ZR1 with more power and less weight for sure. 10k and you will be pulling away from a ZR1
ESP if they track at all. I don't think I will see too many ZR1's.
Happy with my own skin and my own Z06's. The ZR1 is not worth the 150k tag to me period. Not when I can have an A8 And M7 Z06
far better than 1 ZR1. The extra 100 hp is really no big deal.
But the huge *** wing and huge front bill and huge hood bulge are.
Styling is horrible. Just could not spend on 1 of those when I can have 2 better styled cars and make them faster street cars.

I have mixed feelings as well but I will tell you I LOVE my Z06. Like others have stated, on the street it is all you probably need unless you have to have bragging rights.
Here are my thoughts:
1.To me anything over $100,000, for a car that will go down in value, is not worth doing. I say buy the ZR1 used if you really want it in a couple years and enjoy your Z06 until then. If you have multi millions, get the ZR1, Lambo, etc.
2. I personally don't like the wheels or big wing, though you could change those (more money). I also do not like the side vents vs. the Z06 vents. These observations are from photos. I need to see one in person to evaluate further.
3. If is it is just about power you can bolt on and tune the Z06 to get that power fairly reasonably or go to Calloway for an additional $18,000. If it is about the ZR1 badge buy one used.
I drive my Z06 very spirited on the streets or take it to the drag strip where very few street cars keep up, it is plenty fast stock. One year of ownership and I still love my Z. I'm waiting a few years and see what is going to happen with the future of Corvettes before making any moves to another car. I usually wait a few years after a new model comes out as improvements will be made. Even though the Z06 may have heating issues on the track, I knew I was not going to track and the 2017 was going to be the best fit for me. Pricing came down, some new changes for the Z06 and upgrades are starting to appear (MCR, GM Intake). The same thing is going to happen with the ZR1. If I really like the ZR1 in person and it evolves, I'll get one in 3-5 years when it is affordable. Just my .02 rant.

Love the looks and upgrade from Z06 the ZR provides; orange and big wing are hits.
With that being said, in what world does it make sense to trade my 2016 Z07 2LZ PDR etc PLUS $60-70k—-for me that’s insane.
Right now you could pick up two discounted new Z06s for the price of one well optioned ZR...
