Default Got back into the 9s after 8 LONG years - 9.933@136MPH

After 8 very long years (Dec 19, 2009 to be exact) I finally got a car into the 9s again running all motor, and then a second time after hotlapping it.

It was a last minute decision after seeing how cold it was in Sacramento on Friday and that the forecast was for it to be only 3 degrees warmer today. The DA was around -855 ft when we started running at noon and -709ft when I ran my quickest time.

My very first pass was a 10.006 and since it was quickly getting warmer I figured that might have been my one and only shot.

I launched 100RPM higher on the second pass (2300RPM) and was running .023 faster by the 1000ft mark but then the car started getting loose to the point where I was forced to lift at first and then finally tap the brakes to keep it from hitting the wall.

The guy at the track said it was likely because it was still very cold so I waited a bit before running again only to have my next two passes be even worse. I had the car aligned several weeks ago so I'm still not sure if it was from that or the cold track. I'm hoping it was just the track as I've made a couple dozen clean passes since the alignment without issue. The only reason I don't think it might have been from the cold was because there wasn't any wheelspin as it got loose, it just started oscillating back and forth beyond 125MPH.

After waiting a little longer still the car thankfully went arrow straight all the way down resulting in the 9.933 pass. I quickly came back around to see if I could replicate it as well as finding somebody to record the next one. It ran slightly slower but was still a 9 second pass so at least I got something worthwhile on video.

Not sure how old you are, but do you remember SUNDAY! NIAGARA! ads on the radio?

Also not too far away was the Lancaster N.Y. strip. Probably gone now.

I'm 53 and lived in the area until I was 34. Those do sound vaguely familiar though.

I've won a trophy or 2 there myself.everybody still calls it Cayuga even though new name is Toronto Motorsports Park.my 1970 340 Dart "Swinger" would have put a hurtin on that Chevelle I'm still running there 48 years later.Corvette went 10.20 last time out at Cayuga

NIAGARA! was the (only?) big 1/4 mile sanctioned track around western NY back in the day. Lancaster, as memory serves, was only 1/8 mile.

I grew up near Rochester. We went to nearby Spencer Speedway (1/8) mile EVERY Saturday during the summer, weather permitting. It was a big beer party.

Then there was South Butler on Sundays, a 1/4 mile in the middle of a cow pasture, lol. And the last half or so was somewhat downhill. Haha, oh well it was all fun.
