Hello all. New to the forum. I am in the market for a 2008 -2010 C6. Really leaning towards a convertible. Other than the looks of the coup vs vert top up, what are some of the reasons for those who don't go with the convertible? If I look at coups, the market opens up a little more.
I personally prefer the looks of the coupe and owned a c5 coupe prior to purchasing an 08 vert. Driving with the targa off is a nice compromise but still does not give you the open feel of a convertible. I feel like I'm still trying to get to like the look of the convertble. Not sure if it will ever happen but I bought it for the open air drive.

You will find equal groups here, those that would only own a vert, those who don’t care and those who would never.
I’ve own a vert Corvette before but never utilized it. It was ok on summer evenings but too hot during the day. Plus everyone could see me pick my nose at stop lights.
I was on the fence for a while which way to go. Wanted a Z06 but wanted the feel of an open air car. Coming from a C3 with t-tops it was necessary. So then I though of getting a coupe with the removable top. Lots of room in the back if you need it. However I don't love the look of the coupe with the top removed. Plus if you put the top in the hatch there goes all that storage. So I got the 'vert and I'm glad I went that way. It can be driven with the top up when it's too hot. I can lower the top and still fit two reasonable golf bags in the trunk. I'm not sure a coupe can do that with the top in the back. Sure you can leave the top at home but I live in the NE, summer weather can be erratic.
I had a C5 coupe, and when looking at C6's I was looking for another coupe. Then my sales lady talked me into taking an 08 vert for a test drive with the top down, and the rest is history.
I was originally going to go with a C7 Coupe... but found a sweet deal on a C6 Vert and went that route... and haven't looked back. My FAV car for when the weather is moderately to uber-nice!
I will add that I added the Windrestrictor to help keep my wife's hair from flying around and to lower the wind noise in the cabin. We've had the rig up to the 70's on the freeway and it's fine (now).
The right answer for me is a C4 vert with the hard top. It is a bit of a chore to put on but, has the advantages of a hard top and the fun of an open car. I wish the later Corvettes still had the option of a convertible hardtop.
Nothing better than a nice day cruising with the top down, can't imagine not having the convertible.
If they only made the coupe, I would not own a Corvette. Nothing against coupes, but I have to have a convertible. Nothing compares when the weather is nice.
Verts are an instant vacation. Great feeling to drive with the top down on a nice day. I also love the look with the top down. Modern vert tops are.quiet, well.insulated and a breeze to put up /down. They last for years if taken care of too.......To me a sports car ain't a sports car unless it's a vert....
I have the convertible and love the sunset drives. You asked about some reasons. Most if not all track events require a roll bar for convertibles or a coup.
Had a couple convertibles (M-B and BMW) back in the late 80s when I lived up north. Nowadays I prefer a closed car. I've never had the targa top off the Vette except to fix the squeaks and pull the seat out to repair the foam. In fact I've never even opened the windows while driving. Reasons: in FL most days high humidity, UV index really high as long as the sun is out even if it's cool. At night it's also usually humid, and I feel nervous in an open car from a security standpoint.
