Default Alternator originality question...

I remember reading somewhere, that if you want to keep your car original, that you should have your AC Compressor rebuilt as opposed to replaced when the time comes, because they are somehow numbered. Is the same true of alternators?

Thanks!

There is information on alternators that indicate specific model and build. Except for NCRS restorations I don't know it's considered important BUT in most cases I'd prefer a DIY or 'for hire' rebuild of what I know was original over that of an 'over the counter' reman.

AC compressors I'd think a different conversation - it would be very dependent upon compressor design an R4 through '87 NO, a 'denso '88+ maybe.

Thanks for the replies...the one in there has already been replaced, so not looking like it's a concern after all...but thanks for the info!
