Default C5 Shop Manuals... really?

Huh? For real?

I'm really enjoying my new 04 CE and having a blast. As I always have, one of my early purchases is a set of shop manuals. I did some hunting around and ....gesh?

Are theC5 manuals really $500ish? I'd hate to buy a CD as there is something about paging through the book at is lays on the top of your car.

Am I looking in the wrong areas? My ZR1 shop set were only $50, but with a C5 I may not me in Kansas any more.

Keep an eye out for used sets. Much cheaper.

They can be had for under $200 delivered. Check ebay and our fs section, they come up pretty often.

The price for a set of factory service manuals has dramatically increased in the past few years. I think I bought mine for about $120 used when I first got my car (8+ years ago).

As mentioned above, the manuals do come up for sale every now and then in the C5 Parts for Sale section. Just keep a watch for the ones for your year car. Or, post up a Wanted to Buy thread in that section and see if anyone has a set they are willing to sell. You just might find a good set at a good price.

Keep in mind the CDs that are sold on like eBay and such are often not complete. Part of the reason why the FSMs are so expensive & expansive in volumes are they are very detailed. For example a lot of the CDs lack full sets of wiring diagrams and the like; things you would likely actually buy an FSM for.

I found a set on the big auction site for $200.00 shipped. I bought them the day I went to pick up my 2001.

The "helms" manuals are a poor substitute for the factory manual.

guess I sold my used ones too cheap... yeah I paid like $120 back in the day....they do come up in the FS section every now and again and on Ebay....they are worth it if you do any wrenching at all....you can also learn a lot from our members who do C5 Tech threads...

A brand new set of C5 FSM's can be expensive but used versions can be had for around $120-$150 if you take the time to look around. Was that $500 price for brand new books? Condition of used manuals will be important so make sure you find a set with no missing pages or in poor condition.

I paid $90 for the 3-book set for my '02 at a local swap meet. They were in excellent condition. I like using the paper manuals as I can use post-it notes to add comments or tips to a given procedure.

I purchased the 2010 Factory GM Software 5 years ago, covers every GM car up to 2010 I can search issues or go right to the section I need. Its quite easy to have a laptop in your garage.

Bill, You purchased the car, don't cheap out on the manuals. They are worth every dollar and will pay for it's self the first time you have to use it.

I bought my 99 C5 this last february. Got all 3 factory manuals from EBAY for $90 shipped, and I thought that was expensive!
