Did a little scoping at #1 intake (60K miles)
While waiting for my new Water Pump to arrive, I thought I take the time to check on the carbon buildup on #1 intake. The first time I did this was at 40K miles;
This photo is at 60K miles;
Not bad enough to keep me awake at night. The car gets as many highway miles as street miles (perhaps more on Hwy). The water pump going out at 60K is more of a concern for me. At least the C7 has one of the Easiest pumps I have every change out.

Hard you hard on the car as far as other than stock motor & hitting on it really good... Not bad for a DI set up that has been run hard. Robert

Not bad at all. Thanks for the encouraging report.

Annnd more evidence that this issue will never go away with a direct injected engine.
Its good to know there's not even a problem at 60k, and at the rate coke is accumulating, I would guess there will be another 60k on it before even the slightest problem occurs.

It looks pretty much like many port injected engines at that mileage point.

This entire issue about direct injection seems to be a problem that Chevrolet engineers have at least partially avoided. Unlike some of the European manufacturers.
Eventually though, if enough miles are on this motor, someone will have to give it the walnut shell treatment, or disassemble it and manually clean the valves.

Not bad at all for 60k !

With all the horror stories you hear about DI from other car forums, this is good news! Hopefully the backs of the intake valves look just as good (but based on this it's certainly looking promising)

Hadn't thought of that, but yeah, it will be interesting to see what their valves look like when they get to the same mileage marks.
