Default 65 Power Antenna Switch

Has anyone repaired a power antenna switch on a 65? The previous owner thought it was a good idea to place mine (his at the time) in a bucket with other piece parts (mostly nuts and bolts) and let it rain on it. Took me an hour just to get the outside of the chrome halfway cleaned....pitted.

The switch barely moves to the Up or Down position and doesn't seem to come back to the center position by itself. Since I've never seen a good one, is that normal?

Hoping I can get it all good and cleaned up tomorrow or this weekend.

Thanks for any advice,
Dex.

it should come back to center on its own, sounds like its loaded with gunk, you might get it cleaned up with an electrical contact cleaner.

Thanks Gavin. It's just frustrating that someone wouldn't take better care of their stuff. I'm going to take it apart and clean it, maybe a light coat of grease will do the trick.

Thanks,
Dex.

I would be careful about the type of grease to use, clean it up with an electrical contact cleaner than use a dielectric grease, something that wont promote tracking of electric current.

Paragon Corvette has brand new shiny chrome switches for around $100.

Exactly. I should have stated dielectric grease. I got it apart and I don't see any springs or anything that would make it go back to the center point. Oh well, I'll clean it up and see what I get. It couldn't hurt anything.

BTW, just connected the speedo cable, under the car, WHAT A PAIN THAT WAS!

Thanks,
Dex.

Yes sir. I like to try to keep the original parts as much as possible, even if pitted a bit. If I can't get it cleaned up and working, then a new one it shall be!

Thanks,
Dex.

I did, but it was still stuck so I took it apart. I cleaned it up, but the center pivot is cracked. I'm going to put it back together, but not expecting it to last. I think a new one is the way to go.

Thanks,
Dex.

I would say so there is only so much you can do to save some parts
