Default Mobil One ESP 0W-40

I just read in the latest issue of America's Sports Car (National Corvette Museum Publication) that in the third quarter of 2018, Mobil will be offering a new oil for our Corvettes. It states in the article that the new Mobil One ESP 0W-40 is designed for track and street duty. This new synthetic oil eliminates having to change oil for track events and street driving. Anyone see this??

Short answer is 'yes', but it isn't going to be available in retail outlets until fall of 2018 .

Apparently, some Chevrolet dealers have access to it earlier for oil changes (assume in 55 gal bulk barrels?), but can't sell the oil alone.

Isn’t this the new 0-40 that I bought at Auto Zone in Plano Texas last week? Or did I buy the wrong thing? Is there a different 0-40 coming this year?

No. This is different than the European spec.

No, that is the European 0w40, as stated on the label. The new 0w40 has ESP on the label.

Yep I wasn’t paying attention. Wonder if I should take it back and get Mobil1 5-30 or run this oil for a month and then change to Mobil1 15-50 for the Texas summer?

^^^ That depends. Is your car still under warranty? If so, return it for a warranty approved dexos certified oil. If you're out of warranty, then use it.

Thanks again Patman! I also returned the Mobil 1 oil filter and got the PF64 oil filter. The guys at AutoZone said that GM cars need the factory filter because the Mobil 1 filter has a much lower pressure point than the PF64. The PF64 has a drain back valved rated at 22 psi

Having that 22psi bypass pressure is important, and there are two new oil filters out there that just came out that also have it. They are the Wix WL10290 and the Napa Gold 100290 (they are both made by Wix to the same specs)

I don't think there was any need to return your M1 oil filter. Assuming you had a M1 EP (extended performance) filter ending in A, it has the requisite bypass valve pressure as required by GM.

In the case of the LT1 in the C7, M1-113A, was confirmed to be 22psi. If you're still in doubt, call the Oil Filter Hotline on M1's website (800.882.0890,) and when they picks up notice that they say thank you for calling Champion Labs. Champion Labs makes both the M1 and AC filters.

There seems to be conflicting info from that hotline though, so which person on the hotline do we trust? I got an email just last week from someone from the Tech Hotline at Champ Labs and this is what they told me regarding the bypass pressure on the M1-113A:

Patrick

The M1-113A has a by-pass valve set at 12-18 psid at 1/10 gallon flow. Champion Laboratories makes the AC Delco PF64 oil filter and the Mobil 1 M1-113/M1-113A filters and we stand behind any of these three listed filters when used on the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette.

A good point and a good question to put to Champion Labs. I'm still of the opinion that it wouldn't make much sense to put a better (or even different and contrary to GM spec) bypass valve a less expensive AC Delco filter, as opposed to an extended performance M1 filter.

That's why I'm happy that there is the new Wix/NAPA Gold choice coming out, as it's a better filter than the AC Delco and has the correct bypass valve setting, so it's a filter I can use with complete confidence. If I knew for sure the M1 filter also had the right bypass, I'd have no problem with that one either. I've used M1 filters on many of my cars ever since they first came out in the 90s.

Default No, European Car Formula

No it's the European Car Formula as stated on the label. The new will have the Dexos certification label.

I am an impatient person and since the 0w40 ESP isn't hitting the stores for a long time, I bought some of this to use on my next oil change instead:

Default 0w40

Just had a 0W40 change at the dealership, one of my two last "freebies".

Since i have the dry sump, the tech saved the bottle from an exact 9.8 fill. See attached photo. I also bought a spare to carry to the track. Note the "not for retail sale" sticker. The service writer said she checked the distributor, and they are beginning to have a good stock available, so things may be looking up for retail sales in the fall. The M1 guys at the BASH were insistent that it will be available retail this fall.
