Default Vert Top Not Working--Help!

Went to put the top up using the dash switch with the engine running. The top latched at the front but stopped working just before it could seal at the rear. Top is not secure at the rear seal and was flapping up and down on the ride home.

It says "top not secure" on the DIC and says "only possible to secure the top manually". I tried the dash switch several time and same messages. No hydraulic noise when the top button is pressed either way. I also noticed that the rear hatch does not open with the fob or switch by the license plates. Only can use trunk key.

Could it be a fuse, etc. I want to try to troubleshoot this before taking to the dealer. The dealers here do not have a lot of experience with convertible repair here.

Anyone have this problem? Thanks

Not sure what year your car is, but for my '17 the owner's manual discusses manual top movement on page 54. Should be pretty close thereabout for other years.

If the DIC displays the ONLY
MANUAL OPERATION OF TOP
POSSIBLE message:
1. Press <the top operation switch> to either open or
close the top. Press the switch
in the opposite direction if one
does not work.
2. If the top moves, continue
pressing the switch in that
direction for at least
five seconds. The top should
then work normally.

If the top does not respond in either
direction, use the following
procedure to manually adjust the
convertible top and tonneau cover if
they are retracted but not latched.
This requires more than one person.

1. On each side of the tonneau
cover, lift and pivot rearward
into the fully open position.
2. Lift and pivot the convertible
top rearward into the fully
stowed position.
If the convertible top does not
operate after this adjustment, close
the tonneau cover and take it to
your dealer for service.

Disconnect the battery for about 5 minutes. Then try again. Solved the same problem for me.

Shouldn’t matter. Read your Owner’s Manual for your car.

There was a trunk latch recall that should have been done on your car that could cause the issue you are having, however as another member noted, disconnect battery negative
terminal for 5 min. to see if computer reboot fixes the issue.

One other thing to try is to make sure the barrier in the trunk is attached to the switches on each side.

Are you referring to the partition in the trunk?

Is the trunk latch in circuit with the top switch or two different issues?

Yes, he is, and anytime you disconnect the battery, you need to reindex the windows, or the top won't cycle.

Can the top be manually closed if I open it and can't get it shut? Just want to be prepared if I have to leave the top open.

Yep, mine did the same thing once; indexed the windows and worked.

Had a problem with my windows not indexing. Top was secure. Pulled battery, then it showed top not secure. Cycled top, then the windows indexed.
There is definitely some kind of bug in the system.
Try using the hydraulic release to lower it. In my C6 it was located behind the passenger seat.
Then try to cycle it.

Anyone know where the release is on the C7? Top is latched at the front and can't cycle it.

Have you bothered to look in the Owner’s Manual? Convertible top operation, including manually, starts on page 49. It’s a very useful resource for your questions.
