That article is a bit non-nonsensical in terms of the endless excuses. And what about the comment that Corvette has put out 4 cars in 4 years because they don't waste time (at the Ring?). Count how many variants of many different models Porsche has come out out with in 4 years, and add in the sub 7 minute time of the new GT3RS. No comparison. If GM wants the cred, they need to set a credible time. No doubt the ZR1 is very fast, but a laptime is the measure of a fast car. I'm not buying the excuses.

Already setting up the excuses??
As I fully expect the ZR1 to go around in a much quicker time than 7:12, I would be pissed if I was part of the Corvette team and saw this article. Nothing more than an opinion piece based on an unofficial report.

The Camaro ZL1 did it in 7:16 by GM
The C7 Z06 did it in 7:13.9 by Sport Auto
The C7 ZR1 will be AT least 5 seconds faster than the Z06... if not 10 Seconds or more.
100 More HP, better Aero (Less Drag) and more consistent power for the entire lap.
I wouldn't buy into the "7:12" Hype... (IMO).

Dave

article is excuse making and innacurate. the whole auto world looks at these times. To bring up the cost as a constraint is ridiculous. if you want your premier sports car to be seen as a true supercar spend the money and the time and put up the great time the car is capable of

I use to think the 'Ring time was the be all end all but I now realize that even when I track locally I don't hit any turns at 180 mph like the "Ring.
I would think Lightning Lap would give a much better picture of the performance of the cars I'm considering for most people's purposes.
Just sayin'.

I like the article. And the truth is the only reason we always complain about the "ring time" is becaise GM refuses to give it to us. If gm published that 714 for the Z06 we would have found a reason to complain about that I'm sure.
it's Z06 only better. More better aero and 100hp and 65lb tq.. If you modified a Z06 to have those things would you not expect at least 7 to 10 seconds on a track that long? I would. Easily. And if they don't publish one officially. Hopefully that same magazine takes one and gets it done. But what's already published on our VIR is what really counts.
how about they start coming here? Beat us on our turf.

The article was spot on. Since when did the unsanctioned German toll both become the official proving grounds??? Agreed GM needs to focus on our tracks and from what is recently being released the ZR1 is owning the local tracks. Great job GM.

If you guys just take a step back for a second and THINK, for a car that is not even sold in europe and it will never be driven in the ring, there is absolutely no burning reason for them to go there. We have enough tracks here as it is. This makes no sense. They just went there without proper planning, couldnt pull it off, now they are saying they dont care and we are supposed to believe them and move on?
You dont realize what makes a brand name is sum of all its parts not just pure hp figures and large portion of that is prestige and credibility.

Others may have mentioned this, but stories / rumors of Porsche running cars at the ‘Ring without all of the interior features (seats, A/C, sound systems, trim panels, etc.) abound. Who checks this stuff to ensure Porsche isn’t misrepresenting ‘Ring times? Given the fraud concerning VW’s (which owns Porsche) diesel emissions, don’t even try and tell me the Porsche folks would “never do that” or are are above removing undisclosed parts to reduce the weight of these ‘Ring cars.
