Default Trying to get me C3 to run in the 10s. HELP!

Hey all, I really have been wanting to build my 1974 vette to run in the 10s or 11s. I want it to be streetable though. Any suggestions on what could get me there? I currently have a semi-worked 350 small block with the stock 4 speed tranny. Please comment some suggestions!

What set up do you have in your current motor? Are you wanting to go turbo, pro charger, NOS ect? What it runs now will help alot. Are you running at a track also?

Are you near any 1/8 mile tracks? That should do it.

I don't know the exact weight of your car, but 550 horsepower should just get you into the tens with the correct gears, tire and chassis setup. It takes a lot more than just horsepower. And then there is breakage. You need to build the complete driveline to handle the power with slicks or at least drag radials on the car.

Find a clear safe stretch of roadway.....get out your stopwatch, stomp the gas pedal and start the watch at the same time.......after 10 seconds, stop the watch. Mission accomplished.

Never had any luck running a target E.T or MPH. I always ended up making more power than I thought and then doing everything to make it all work together.
in any event you need to formulate a plan for all the systems of the car,and making it street able throws more into the mix, what is streetable? I drove a 72 Vega with a 496 with twin dominator on the street with 5:38 gears on the street wit 14-32-15 slicks. Was it streetable? I guess if you consider driving on roads with a 35 mph speed limit.
technology has passed on and alot of things can be done much easier today.good luck with your project.

I probably own about the closest 10 second streetable C3, but the 10s and low 11s is on slicks! We can do higher 11s and cake walk low 12s all day long on like Street rubber. We also have a full road race suspension (heavy springs, double adjust Konis), all spherical type rod ends, etc etc (about 12k in suspension). The engine is 4 bolt main, large journal 327, with fully ported LT-1 heads, necked down intake valves, rollers, single plane, 30-30 cam, side exhaust 4 inch collector Hookers, 28 inch diameter tires, 10-12 inch wide rims and we can go wider! A lot of oil cooling and water cooling aides and tricks like a Mercedes Benz 6.9 liter shroud and fan assembly. The car is also lightened about 300lbs. We had NOS on it for quite a time with two stages, and the rear diff was the weak link, so we put in a Toms BOE 3.70, plus we have all solid ujoints, etc. And a roll hoop! We redline at 8200rpms! Timing all in fast, and run it anywhere from 36-42 degrees of advance, depending on what we plan to do, and whether we have good octane gas in it or not! I can race tune it on the street for a race, and return it to street acceptable tune to drive it home!

The entire car has gotten attention, as it just isn’t an engine drop job. Over time, it was developed and that took money! And honestly the sweat tune that seems to handle most all of the new cars is about a high 11 second tune, that is totally acceptable operating on the street! I can run it down the freeway at 80mph in the fast lane, but am watching the gas gauge move!

I'm dipping into the 6's in the 1/8 which should translate to high 10's in the 1/4 with a 383 and 3.73 gears that still pulls 18 inches of vacuum at idle. Very street able.

For reference:

1974 Corvette wide ratio 4 speed, 4.10 rear en
406 SBC
9.7 to 1 compression ratio
Large port Bowtie Vortec heads, dual plane intake, 750 carb.
Straub custom HR cam, 220 @ .050 intake, 230 @ .050 exhaust
Hard street tires
Shift at 6,100 to 6,300

This is a streetable combination.

Typically runs in the 12.80's, with 2.0x sixty foot times. 113MPH
Summer weather in northern Indiana.

(With automatic, proper converter, and drag radials probably looking at 1.6-1.7 sixty foot times and 12.20's with a small dip in MPH.)
