Z06 vs Z51 Comparison Test!

Great review, these comparisons are really helpful!
I'm a fan of the spice red and grey exterior vents.
I have a manual 3LT Z51 as my daily driver. I would love a Z06 but the power seems too much for a daily. Especially after watching your review and the Smoking Tire's of the Grand Sport, I can comfortably say that the LT1 is just enough for me.
Also, that M2 Competition looked tempting for me as well, but the price just doesn't make sense compared to the rebates you get with the Z06.
Really tempting, especially since I live so close to COTA.

The Edelbrock after market supercharger adds about another 100 hp to the LT1. It is limited to the capabilities of the LT1 design. If you put a Z06 supercharger on an LT1 you would over stress the engine. The block and crankshaft and heads are different metallurgy on the LT4 to accommodate the extra 200 hp. The Edelbrock is designed to take advantage of that extra margin in the LT1 without overstressing the LT1 crank and block and heads. The A8 for the Z51 might be the same and can take the extra hp. I read a post somewhere about that. Not sure about the Electronic Transaxle. These cars are all tested to the engine, chassis combo. The Z51 is designed around the LT1 engine. So the brakes and suspension upgrades are geared toward the 460hp engine. The Z06 brakes and suspension upgrades are larger and more robust. More hp = More torque assuming the RPM upper limit is the same which is 6500 rpm I believe. So the drive train and the suspension are tuned to each other.
In the link below is a thread with some real live experience with the Edelbrock Supercharger put in a stock stingray. On page 4 of the thread are the specs for the trans and the powertrain. The trans can handle the extra hp with the edelbrock.

Made it half way through, I got the gist.
Good for you converting your buddy over to the dark side, the M2 is a great car but is not in the same league as a Stingray let alone a Z06.
I am now contemplating on buying a C8 or C7Z06 (I have a '14 Z51), the ZR1 is out of my sights (but who knows what the future holds) so now I'm just waiting for the first pics of the C8 as well as approximate pricing.
Great vid, thanks.
