Default 66 Shifter Reverse Lock out Rod - Oh No!

Backing out of my garage this morning (I have a stock T shift 4 speed from the Factory), I could not get back out of reverse! I had no choice but to get under the car - remove the reverse rod and hand flip out of reverse. Then I was able to get into 1st and get back into the garage -- I then found my Shift Reverse lockout rod laying on the driveway! How can the rod fall out? It does not look broken. I will order a Zip shift rebuild kit - but curious if others have experienced this?? Any step by steps for the shift removal? I know Zip has instructions - just wanting to gain from your own experience!
Thanks!

I think the "T" has an allen set screw that holds the rod in.

Have not taken the shift apart yet - what holds the rod in?

You are right! There is an allen set screw - still in the tee - I did not realize it was even there! Now I need to figure out how to get the rod back in!

Attach it to the tee with the set screw, then the tee and rod together just drop into the shifter handle from the top. Adjust the length with the set screw so it won't go in reverse with the tee down, and will go smoothly with the tee up. Put the spring back between the ball and tee and screw the ball down. It's really a simple setup. The red arrow shows the end of the lockout rod you have once it's in the hole. You don't need any rebuild kit, you can order the rod alone if it has broken and is too short to adjust. You can also drive the car with it out, as long as you keep it out of reverse when going to first.

OK This is great - so the flat thin end of the rod is up on the set screw end while the solid round rod end is on the bottom.

If I remember right, the set screw that holds the cable went away sometime in 1964. That was First Design.
