A4 Guys: when did your trans go out? Symptoms? ...was just towed.
Hi Yall
its 2am here...finally got home from being stranded.
feels like the trans went out on my 2005 with 105k miles
I'm driving and little by little in a total of 5 blocks my trans was slipping then revving high. Then on the 6th block it didn't accelerate but it was revving high.
It left me stranded at the light. Some cute ladies in high heels from the club across the street offered to push-true story!.
so I'm assuming it the trans as the shifter feels fine...
also the antifreeze looks fine
anything else to look for before I shop for a trans? Thanks

One time I put it in park at a drive through and when I put it in drive it wouldn't move. The entire shifter felt like it disconnected from the trans. Nothing like pushing a new vette from a drive through window. There was no symptoms before I had any problems showed up. 2 years and 2 full rebuilds under warranty before that car had to go.

sounds like it just "wore out" and didn't have any catastrophic failure. Ask around for recommendations for a trans rebuilder. Some are better than others.

but know that I really think back....i heared two clunks through out the night....but were spread out and did not happen around the time that it left me stranded

I'm wondering if I should take it to a trans shop to see of it could be saved or just swap it out with another unit?
I was trying to trade it in this month so I'm not looking to rebuild it

When I broke the 4L60e in my 99 Z28 (the pump broke), I got it rebuilt for $650. A fresh professionally rebuilt trans will make your easier to sell and maybe even get more for it.

Rebuilt My Tranny
My transmission went out with approximately 44K on the clock. I experienced similar symptoms as you did. Mine seemed to shift fine from first to second; however, when it tried to shift to third it would miss and just raise in RPMs as I tried to accelerate. I was able to limp it to the shop, where they sent dropped the transmission and saw that the 2-3 drum was quote worn. I opted to have the transmission rebuilt throughout with better parts, and supposedly it can handle 800whp now.

Me!
But mine just plain wore out. I'd have to look at the paperwork, but it wasn't all that long ago.
One day it just wouldn't go into third or fourth anymore. It smelled terrible just taking it to the shop while limping along in second.
