I've found a low mileage GS, 6MT car that should be listed by the end of the week. I received an email from a dealer I've worked with in the past. It's a blue 2011 GS 1LT with 11,800 miles. It is a one owner car and the non-prepped pics they sent make the car look quite clean.

The car is not listed yet, I have a prior relationship with these folks, they tell me they'll probably list it at 37,500 or 38k and go from there. They say they would sell to me for 35,500 if I want the car. Their detail guy comes in Wednesday and they should have pictures Thursday to send me. It doesn't look like there's going to be any problems with this car.

The dealership did put new tires on it but they are Kumho's not Michelin's.

I feel like 35,500 is a bit over priced. I'd really like to be in the 33,5 to 34,5 range, obviously lower is better. However, I don't want to be irrational or unreasonable. This car is the right color being blue and it's a 1LT which I preferred to swap in some Recaro's.

It really does seem that 35k may be a fair price and I may just need to alter my expectations given the low miles on the car.

I suspect it may be worth the low miles in case I sell the car in 4, 5 or 6 years. I will only put about 3 to 4k a year on the car. So at that point having a car with less than 50k miles probably adds some additional value on the back end as well.

One final thought on price, I can obviously negotiate a bit more via email or phone but my personal experience has been you'll likely get the best price in person. So driving 150 miles isn't that big a deal, downside is, if they won't move anymore on price then I make a trip for no reason. I'm inclined to drive down on Friday and try to buy the car.

Any thoughts? Am I over thinking this?

I, personally, don't do any negotiating in person - typically works in their favor as you fall in love with the car in person, etc. That being said, I bought my '12 GS, M6, 1LT Inferno Orange with 30k miles on it for $33.7 last November. It was local to me (40 miles) but I still did the deal through email before wasting my time going down there. At the same time I found a '13 Inferno Orange GS 2LT with 18k miles on it about 300 miles away. This car was listed for $41k and they told me realistically they would drop it to $40k and that was it. To me the 1yr/12k mi difference wasn't worth the additional $6k (I've already put over $8k in my car with options that I wanted & would've done to the other one too).

So your negotiating on a vehicle you've never seen in person ?? That sounds a little scary to me....

1LT is typically less desirable - if it fits what you want that's fantastic
I think your price is spot on - I still would want to look at the car before I made an offer - never know what surprises lurk.
Pull your own car fax, GMVIS and autocheck reports before you speak with them one more time.
Make sure they are all clean and no issues before you take the drive

I typically ask for a ridiculous amount of pictures, a video if possible, service history etc. If the price is where I want it, then I go down and see the vehicle with the paperwork ready to go should I decide to purchase. I've walked away from some, but I also very rarely buy anything but new or very low miles. I have purchased about 20 cars this way, and have been happy with each of my purchases.

I've done that on 5 cars and never had to walk away from a deal but was prepared to do so each time.

In November, I bought a 2011 GS A6 2LT Supersonic Blue with 18k miles for $33,400 so I'd press them to go down another $1500 if you can.

Here's my take. They're at 35.5, you're at 34.5 - I wouldn' lose the car you want over a grand. I'd drive down, offer 33.5, see if they'l do 34.5 and of not pay 35.5 knowing you got the car you wanted and didn' lose out on the experience for months, years, etc.

If it's exactly what you want, I wouldn't walk away from a deal over a thousand dollars or so. YMMV

Before you talk next time w. seller, have those 3 reports in your hands, which means money out of your pocket to get Carfax, Autocheck, but free for the GM VIS as long as you have the VIN and can go to any of your local GM dealers and ask for a printed copy for free.

I'd also suggest someone be there to check over the car unless you are very familiar with Corvettes or C6s in particular. But that's your choice to make; it will cost you something to pay a person to do it up on a lift who knows Corvettes; I'd say $250 max. Your call.

Of course, it would help if, after 12 years on here you gave a location where you are...anonymity is a great thing except when you're trying to estimate a price. As you well know, cars in some parts of the country can be more than other places. Just ask those in CA.

If its what you want then buy it, quit over thinking things or asking what others would do because you'll get opinions from all over the place.
I bought mine by asking if there was any room in the price, he said yes and we agreed that if it was as presented then I would buy it, took cash with me, drove 129 miles, it was just as described and I drove it home
2011 3LT A-6 asked $40,000 and I paid $37,500 3 years ago. Did I pay too much, some would say yes, others would say no.
I'm happy, but in need of a supercharger now lol

Would you go with a roots style (magnuson, E-brock, whipple) all low end power or a Centri style (A&A or ECS) have to get about 3.5K or 4K rpms to really get into power?

My experience with KBB is that it's fairly inaccurate when it comes time to buy. It shows the car as basically being worth about 36k but Edmunds has it way down at 32k which I don't understand.
