Default 0W-40 On Back Order?

Is anybody being told the new 0W-40 is on back order? I called for an appointment for my 500 mile change two weeks ago [2019 Z06] and my dealer is telling me they hope to have the oil by 5/5. When I made the appointment I had 365 miles on the car and I now have 800 and climbing. Maybe the factory should put an extra case in each car when they ship it out! I have called twice just to go on record that I have tried to get the oil changed at 500 miles.

I had an oil change two weeks ago and they still didn't have the oil in. Beyond that, they told me the 40 weight was for 2019's only and I'd have to pony up for it. Tadge says it's the preferred oil for all C7 model years, service advisor says it's for 2019's. Guess I'll have to let Tadge know he's incorrect.

GM is obviously slow getting the info to the dealers about the applicability of the new oil.

I wouldn't wait on the 500 mile change and pile on extra miles waiting for the new oil. I didn't, it just isn't worth it. The advantage of the new oil is supposedly long-term longevity and not having to change oils for track events. Running a few K miles on 5W-30, won't make a bit of difference, and the new oil will be widely available in a few months.

Is there a bulletin or other documentation available online that I could show local dealers? I'm still in the middle of the "Mobil 1 vs whatever you have in the big vat" discussion with mine. Any info I could show (or better yet point them at in their systems) where GM says "use this oil for C7 Corvettes, yes, even for the free oil changes" would be really helpful.

The dealer some of us use around her, Abel Chevrolet in Rio Vista, has indicated that they have some on hand but due to lack of availability they must save it for the 2019's which are specifically supposed to get it.

I just got a call from my dealer saying that the oil came in. They gave me an appointment for tomorrow.

Not a good idea at all. There is no 10w40 that meets the dexos specs.

I had my 500 mile oil change done 2 weeks ago. I called in advance and spoke to the Service manager to make certain he had the 0W-40 in stock. He assured me he did. I brought the car in and I told them to put 9 quarts in and leave me the 10th quart so that I could top it off, "sure, no problem."
The Service manager says, "all done, 10th quart is in your passenger footwell." Great, I get in my car and what do I find? 0W-40 Mobil 1 European spec oil. I inform them this is not right. I show them pictures of the new oil(included with paperwork that came with my new car. I show them this forum. He spends the next 20 minutes with his Parts manager trying to find the right 0W-40 oil. Finally he says,"it's back ordered".
At least I had my initial oil change.
Now the good part. He called me Friday, said he got the right oil in and he would be happy to change out my oil for the NEW 0W-40 oil, no charge, and this won't count towards my two free oil changes.
Thank you Chris at Malouf Chevrolet in North Brunswick, N.J.

Sounds like a good dealership trying to make things right for you.

Too bad there aren't more dealers like this one. Kudos!

Dealers can't or don't have it, but I was at Menards today getting oil for the lawn tractor and they had ample supply of Mobil 1 0 - 40 in stock at 7.99 a quart

That's the European Formula 0w40, it's not the ESP formula 0w40 that has the dexos2 certification.

That is correct. European Spec. Not the new ESP formula

There's a bulletin out there from about two years ago, telling dealers to use Mobil 1 (5W-30, presumably) for the free oil changes.

Another bulletin telling them to use the new 0W-40 ESP on 2019 C7's.

So far, nobody has found a GM bulletin saying the ESP 0W-40 is officially approved for the previous C7's. The bulletin writers apparently don't talk to Tadge...

In a thread in another section of the forum, member TOMZE posted the following:

The Bulletin# informing the dealers to use the new oil on all C7's is:

I posted this in another thread but I'm having the worst time finding qualified people to work on a C7. Dealers won't check the alignment, won't use the right oil, and in general seem untrained and uninformed about Vettes. I thought if a dealer sold Corvettes they had to have techs trained to work on them but that does not seem to be the case.

Third party mechanics area act like I'm asking about a McLaren or a Lambo if I call. "We'd certainly give it a try." "Wow! We'd love to get a look at one of those." Body shops have the same reaction.

The Bulletin# informing the dealers to use the new oil on all C7's is:

18-NA-129
Thanks. I couldn't find anything online but maybe the dealer can look up that number.

I found this at the local auto parts store, and it does not seem to meet Dexos specs.
