Nature of the beast this motor has been more than one that this has happen too. Valve spring more than not if you were not hard into a pull with the car.

Go back now with good pistons & diff valves & aftermarket spring. Now if you had aftermarket spring in it was a valve. How many miles did you have on it with the new cam. I would hope whom ever did the cam & tune was good with the work on it...

Alternatively, your mods and tune may have had something to do with it. The unmolested OEM engines don't "blow up" very often.

Whether you were driving "hard or fast" has nothing to do with when an engine fails. The damage that causes a failure is more often than not cumulative over time until the failure point is reached. It could reach that failure point at idle. When the LS7 in my Z06 let go about a decade ago, it was at 2K rpm and about 20K miles.

Either a bad install on the parts or a bad tune.

How much power was it making, and on what fuel or fuels.

Its hard to know just looking at a pile of parts.

That sucks big time though.

Now with pic's that don't look like a per say new head like in your other pic with that much carbon on it like under the head gasket with only about 1500 miles on it. Something was done wrong from looking at this. Looks like that was # 8 hole that gave out so more than not in the tune not enough gas in the rear holes. Plus it really looks like that back hole had space between head & gasket for 1500 miles on it. Hate it that block & one head is shot.Robert

Agreed.
It's amazing how tough OEM engines are these days.
Back-in-the-day an engine that made it to 100k miles was celebrated.
It truly was rare.

Modding/tuning one of these newer engines can really be problematic.
It's better just to buy a car with a factory engine that HAS the power output desired to begin with.

Looks like you dropped a valve. And I agree with Robert Miller, that's a suspiciously large amount of carbon in the combustion chamber for only 1,500 miles.

Here's a couple pictures of the piston, I'm sure it was just the rings still holding it together.
The car was making 536 rwhp & 502 torque on the Dyno
Thanks for all the help

Per say these pistons are crap the weakest part of the motor. It really don't take much to chew up a head & piston like that when you break a valve like that. So that said for 1500 miles that head just don't look like 1500 miles on it.

When the car broke could you hear a misfire are like the motor had a knock & like a little loose of power just before it went to hell on you.

But from your pic's that valve went down from the spring r the retainer are the 2 little clips that hold the valve in place came out on it.

Man sorry to see this on you its a big PITA to do all that over again. More so if the shop that did it really didn't know what he was doing on these cars. But again that one head just don't look correct for 1500 miles. I would show it to the shop that did the work & see what they tell you on it. But I know where that will go also for you. I am sure he will tell you that it had to be hitting 7,k plus rpm. Robert

The Corvette was running fine then just stopped running & I pulled over immediately. I had the car towed to the shop that did the work on it & was told it was a part failure that is out of anyone's control. . That really makes no since to me with just 1 out of 8 that look like that .
I originally meant to put this in the Tech/Performance forum and was wondering if I could also post it (or be moved) there hopefully for some more information .
Thanks for all the help so far

Once a valve head is dropped, it does an enormous amount of damage to the piston, head, etc. I once had a carb butterfly drop and since it was only brass, it didn't do anywhere near the amount of damage that you experienced.

I got lucky when a valve turned loose in my 68 Camaro with a big block in it. No damage to the block.

Now an expensive paper weight.

My car dropped a valve too. Making 568whp on a base supercharger kit and headers. Driving on the highway at 2K rpms is when mine took a **** as well. Never did find out why, all I know is GM wouldn't touch it under warranty and just blamed it on the supercharger. Now I have a fully built 416 instead.

what year are you? i have seen 3 local 14's break stock valve springs and drop valve. 1 was a bolt on car, 2 were 100% stock. 15+ lt1's have blue springs were 14's are yellow.
