Default C6 Door handle switch

Hi,

Sorry if this has been asked before, my search produced nothing.

My passenger exterior door handle switch stopped working. When pressed I see the red lights blink but it does not release the door to open. The door opens fine using the interior button. Is it safe to assume that it is the exterior handle switch? My FOB's are new.

Suggestions?

Thanks,
Rick

I had the same problem, door handle switches are pretty cheap online or you can clean the contacts in the handles, it only takes a couple of minute. Here is a video from the forum. There are also plenty of other videos on Youtube.

Thank you, I looked and found many videos. My concern was that it might be something other than that switch. I ordered one for $14.10 and will try it out. I probably can fix my old one, looks easy. GM finally made something simple and cheap.

It’s common for the connections in the handle pad to get dirty. Simple fix to remove and clean them. 15 minutes, zero cost and mine was fixed. Did the same thing to my exterior rear hatch button.

Thanks. Now it seems so simple. I have contact cleaner at work, its going to rain tomorrow so I'll take the handle/switch into work with me. I'll own an extra one just in case.

Thanks for the heads up, I can clean up my trunk switch while I'm at it.

Quick check to weed out if it just the pressure pad on the door, or the lock latch instead, see if the interior button on the door opens the door.

Hence both the door button inside and the pull pad outside, are connected to the same circuit. So If only one of the two works, then the problem with the other. If both don't work, then could be the latch mech instead.

Feels good when you can easily and inexpensively repair something, doesn't it?

Yes, I needed a brake. I usually do everything myself but I decided to ask the dealer about the broken ash tray spring and my PS hose (has tiny leak). I passed on the ash tray, that was $300+ and the PS hoses $900. The new Vettes are great but I'd rather work on the old ones.

Thanks to all for their input.

I had an ash tray door that wouldn't stay closed due to a broken latch. I bought the entire assembly from a forum member for $25 and replaced it myself in 40 minutes.

You made out well there, I think GM parts direct gets $140. I can live with it the way it is for now.

Enjoy spring & your ride!
