Default My off idle hesitation is FIXED!

After repairing my heads and installing a Halltech cold air intake I
Developed a hesitation for example I’m in fifth or sixth gear and I am half coasting half under load it wants to buck or hesitate. After my head work and the installation of my cold air intake I took my car in to be tuned and noted to the tuner that it had a hesitation that if he could tune it out. As it turned out after the tune my tuner told me that he was unable to get rid of the hesitation as he knew that it is due to air turbulence in the cold air intake system. What finally cured my issue was a piece of aluminum honeycomb known as an air straightener located just in front of my mass air flow sensor. I can now drive in six gear at 70 miles an hour the engine is smooth as silk and I gained 2 miles per gallon!

I

Interesting. I have a similar issue but thought it was from my big cam. What cam are you running?

I have the MF103, stock tune, and no surging or hesitation....and I opened up the outer edges of the shroud to allow for more cold air into the beehive. Only thing I have is the TB whistle under slight throttle conditions. I've read that a ported TB would get rid of that whistle, but I don't mind it.

I have the MF103, Mamo ported TB and Mamo ported MSD and the whistle is pretty prominent at part throttle.

I also don't mind it, I think it sounds pretty cool

Stock cam but it will help with a bigger cam. On the Halltech CAI system the mass airflow sensor is moved forward about 6 inches so that the bigger cam can easily be tuned

Good for you some people don’t have that issue at all and some do, I’m the some do, it was getting really annoying but I’m back to enjoying the car. Best part the mod cost was only $17.50!

Glad you fixed your problem. This was a mod a lot of guys did with there C5s to improve performance. I tried it with my old car but I noticed a problem of the car dying at idle sometimes when it hadn't warmed up. I ended up replacing the MAF with an original one because it was getting annoying. Hope you don't develop that problem.

I installed this a few years ago to help with the light throttle surging caused by my Callaway intake, and IIRC so did MD (same issue, caused by a different reason).

It did help in my case, and the surging has been reduced to the point that I only remember I had it when threads like this come up. It made a difference in narrowing the cells hit during certian flow conditiins as well (fewer cells hit for a give flow equals increased MAF output precision).

I have a mamo msd, nw 102 and BTR Stage 4 cam. I was thinking it was bc of the big overlap.
Can you post the link to purchase the honeycomb. Its worth a shot.
Also if iam driving 40+ mph and throw the car into neutral and coast, the car will fall on its face and sometimes even stall. The afrs go crazy lean and struggle to keep an idle. It sucks

Sorry I misread the post I thought this was something you removed not added. As I stated on the c5 removing it caused me cold Idle problems.

Too big an intake pipe will make all the air tumble and not give enough velocity across the MAF at lower RPMS. The honey comb fixes the tumbling. That's what Halltech explained to me when I bought mine. I might not have relayed that properly, but I think that I was close. I'm not a scientist, so I'll take his word for it.

That sucks! Did you have the car tuned after cam install? Buck maybe but not die. http://www.saxonpc.com
Good luck man, it just sounds like you desperately need a tune.

Halltech has one, listed in the c5 ls6 area. It fits that car's MAF. 1/8th mesh. Cannot remember the OD. It's more than 29 bucks though.

Exactly and use 7 to 1 ratio
Size of holes times the thickness
