Carbon Zero7 Hood Review
Hey guys, as some of you may know, I was looking to order an ACS hood about a month ago. I had received several pms asking for my review on it once I received it and got it on etc. Well, the hood arrived on Monday, was boxed up nice and arrived with no issues. I throw it in the back of my truck and take it down to my body shop...this is where is gets a little frustrating. We finished unboxing it so I can get a look at the carbon underside (top is primered) I didn't opt for the carbon exposed stinger, sorry not paying an additional $1100 for that. My plan was to paint the top yellow with a carbon flash stinger and leave the underside exposed carbon. That plan was short lived
Don't take this the wrong way guys, I'm not bashing a vendor, especially being one myself. I'm just letting guys know what to expect when you get this hood. I know I was expecting something other than what I received.
Ok, so enough rambling...we get the hood unboxed i look at the underside and couldn't believe the Carbon finish. It looked like a bunch of patch work and nothing like I expected. Keep in mind, I have manufacturers that produce carbon hoods for us, so for $2600+ I'm expecting this thing to look amazing. Immediately my body guy says, you want to box it up and send it back. I said let me get a hold of them first to see what happened. I take some pics and email ACS. They promptly reply and tell me that's the way it's supposed to look. They said they don't advertise as show quality underside. Well, not exactly...the website has a picture (which come to find out is a rendering, not an actual photo) of the underside which looks really good, and that's what I was expecting. I'm in a time crunch so I can't ship the hood back and exchange it for fiberglass, which is what I would have bought if I knew I was painting both sides. ACS offered me $150 to offset the cost of painting the underside, its cool that they did that but it won't cover the entire job. There are imperfections that need to be filled, then sanding, priming, more sanding then paint.
Anyway, sorry for the long post. Again, not bashing anyone in any way. Just putting this out there so anyone interested will know what they are getting into. I was told it fits really well, and I will update the thread when I get pictures of it installed and painted.
Here's a few pics of its current condition.
Here's the one pic I seen of the underside on the website, so this is what I was expecting to get.

I agree. Why would you expect anything less than the picture on their website. Seems shady ro me.

Not Bashing ACS But...I will.Had a issue with a set of Skirts.Narrower than the photo looked and they were not flat.Like the photo..
Sent them back.Payed to return and payed a Over the border tax...
Tax goes by valuation.Skirts were $900.Payed with shipping over $200 to return with TARIFF
Your hood at how much? I waited close to a month for my CASH Back Too..Real Nice
They have a huge following here. All good until a refund issue.
Good luck.Knew nothing about a tariff before the purchase..MAD!

Yea if I had time I would probably return it, I just don't have the time to wait. Obviously super disappointed, especially at the price point we are talking about. I do agree though that there should not be a nice finished photo of the underside if that's not what you are getting.

100% with you Robert. Was prepping to type the same... I'd be pretty upset and would not be paying anyone for them to take it back. Come pick it up.

The underside of your new hood looks like Frankenstein!
You never explained why you don't have time to send it back but I think you'll regret not doing so. I'd send it back after they sent me a prepaid shipping label. Definitely not right to show a super model on the website only to get Frankenstein...

Wow, that looks terrible. Looks like a pain to paint also. I think you were expecting a nice glossy underside like in the photo and to be honest I would be as well looking at the advertised picture. $150 difference to offset your paint cost is bullshit. Thats not going to cover anything except supplies.

Bottom line, if you keep it, you're telling 'em it's really okay.

Actually it looks like a race car part. Functional, not pretty..
I'd just bite the bullet and buy a GM hood, and send that one back, on their dime, after my attorney has a chat with them. But that's just me...

had good experiences with ACS especially at Carlisle. OP, being a vendor yourself i'mm sure you've dealt with issues like this as well and know sometimes it just doesn't work out.
great to post so hopefully nobody else (and ACS) have to deal with the issues you had.

Underside of that hood looks like a patched-worked quilt that my grandmother use to make.. It's just not right to advertise a nice finished hood and send you what I would call a reject. ACS needs to stand up and replace your hood on their dime with a hood as advertised.. Really..
