Default C8 going to be AWD?

I don't think I have read anything about it being RWD or AWD. I think it would be AMAZING to see them come with both options. I would love an 800 hp AWD boosted ME Vette. Would you rather have RWD or AWD?

I'd rather have a high hp, non-hybrid RWD ME, and if offered that's what I'll buy.

But I won't be shocked if later in the model's run they throw a pair of electric motors up front.

Pretty sure if the ME Corvette matches 918 performance it won’t drive you crazy

The base car will not be AWD.

You will likely see a hybrid upper-end AWD model with an electric front axle at some point.

I personally only want a RWD car.

You mean like the Acura NSX with it's electric motors driving the front wheels, that sold 5 last month.

No way it's awd other than there being a halo model with an electric front drive system. The gearbox isn't designed for AWD and neither is the chassis/floor pan. AWD isn't necessary, especially with the huge traction benefits that the C8 will have thanks to being mid-engine. AWD would shift the weight bias forward, contrary to the mid-engine design's purpose. They aren't completely abandoning the Corvette formula, and that means rwd will be the only choice for years to come.

the only way to go AWD and keep it light would be to add the electric motors up front... if it works well, what is there to complain about...
it will work wonders for 0-60 times and improve the car's all weather performance... i don't see why some are so against this... you cannot have 500+hp supercars that are un-drivealbe on the street.

Personally i prefer RWD myself but cannot deny the advantages...Just like Acura has SHAWD, these electic motors can be used to enhance track performance by vectoring the power to each wheel.

I prefer rwd too if you really want a fun to drive car. Look at the McLaren 720s it is rwd and runs in the 9s in the quarter from the factory and still handles awesome, the 570s runs in the low 10s, no need for AWD to hook up. I have never driven a new NSX I would like too but they are heavy. I have driven a 570s and it was awesome and I doubt the NSX is more fun to drive with the extra weight it has.

Read up on the McLaren 720s, they are making close to 700hp at the wheels so close to 800 engine horsepower. If they can get that car to hook up I don't see any need for AWD in a Vette.

If GM wants to make a super fast car make it light.

You forgot one BIG(and heavy) thing. You throw in those electric motors in the front, and you have to add a battery also. A small lightweight AAA flashlight battery won't get the job done.
The NSX has a 500 HP ICE and an additional 73 HP electric motors that will barely out run my 505 HP Z06, even with it's torque vectoring and it's 9 speed DCT(that can shift a hell of a lot faster than I can shift my 6M).

Maybe me being 600 pounds lighter makes that possible. Sure wish I had 68 horsepower tune and a 9 speed DCT in my Z06 and could line up against a NSX.

nothing wrong with electric motor up front as long as they keep the price down

there are HUGE CAFE benefits to this approach down the road and the instant torq are awesome.

the mclaren shows this too, it gets spanked off the line and then ramps up the boost by speed to make a huge charge

if the vette uses really small and higher tech batteries currently made out of unobtaninum, it might not be a bad setup

4wd and big torq are a beautiful thing

Electric motors and battery are likely to take up trunk space, of which, there likely won't be much to begin with.

Agreed. The NSX does not have a 'frunk', and very small "trunk". 3.5L V6 doesn't take up as much room as a 6.2L V8.

Everyone keeps taking about a v6. If they do make a hybrid in later years as an option to the v8 cars. I don't doubt they go v6tt in the rear with and electric front axle. Once they go electric in the front they already alienated their base, the techies that like that sort of thing will not mind the v6. I'd expect most of the sales to go to the v8 cars, but I do expect to see it as an option.

Default Simple!? ;)

Electric or not. Corvette's are supposed to be efficient!

Chassis dynamics make a car fun. AWD NSM! The fastest best Drivers Cars are not AWD. That's an obsolete concept I believed prior to this years goings on! IE GT2 RS and 720s! Why Drag it around?

Tiny 1.6L V6 and over 1,000 HP with AWD. 0-125 MPH in less than 6 seconds. 748bhp ICE(with a 11,000 RPM redline) + 408bhp electric and under 2900 pounds.

Thing is...can you afford one?

There will be an AWD mid-engine Corvette, but not for several years.

Didn't check this things details. It is going for the all time Ring record though, they say. Its grown some bigger aero is it. They usually do even with AWD.
And here I thought it was to be my autonomousness ride. They're trying!
